20SCC interest

I've got a couple guys who have contacted me about dies for a 20SCC ( 20-221AI - 20VTAI) I'm working on Whidden dies but its a minimum of 5 sets which would be a FLBushing die with either a inline seater or traditional if somebody is interested P.M I need atleast 1 more to bit this off.
I do have the JGS chamber reamer that matches these die reamers.

Anybody else want to get in on the 20SCC, got 3 people so far there will be 2 extra sets of dies. If you want in and before I place the order you can specify if you want an inline or 7/8 threaded seater.

I am late to the party but interested, have a few ?'s

Does anyone have a reamer ? Sorry reread original post
What is the the best brass to use?
What barrel works, I was thinking Pacnor or Lilja 3G

I was thinking of building a VT because I already have dies, if the splat factor is a tick better I guess I could go with the SCC

Not to be a negative sort, I sometimes have to remind myself that the 20VT to me was/is the answer to what I do in the rat patch (all day/multiple days of shooting). The overall goal (for me) was great field performance in the 350~ yard range on both rockchucks and sage rats with minimal amount of powder involved. Less powder means cheaper to shoot considering the cost of the stuff now. Also minimal recoil/blast, and longer barrel life.

My 20VT now has just over 5K rounds downrange, and still shoots in the 1/4" range on paper. By going to the 20SCC, more powder fits in the case, yielding more velocity. So more barrel wear and more powder used. Yes, it gives a bit more velocity, but at additional cost in terms of powder used and barrel life, and those two things were exactly what I was trying to avoid by just sticking with the 20VT.

I suppose it all boils down to what you're after in the overall scheme of things. I'm certainly not bashing the 20SCC, I almost went that way a few years ago until I realized I would have been going in the opposite direction from going from the 204 Ruger in the rat patch to the 20VT.

I've also found that too many rifles chambered in almost like cases results in not being completely familiar with one only. My Cooper 20VT being shot all day in the patch is like an extension of my will. By picking up another rifle in another caliber on the same shoot, that familiarity in terms of bullet trajectory is gone, and misses seem to occur until again being settled down with that caliber.

Again, I'm not bashing the 20SCC. It's a very good option on its own, but if one owns a 20VT, I just don't see any reason to have both being they're so close performance wise to each other to be almost redundant.

But again, we have choices. JMO JME (And remember, it's just an opinion.)

I've got 3-20VT and 2- 20SCC like Rick said is there a " wow" factor between the 2? Nope but If you like little more speed, less case trimming, something different and like 40* shoulders like I'm becoming a very big fan of the the SCC is it.
Redding FL bushing dies with micrometer seater and the Whidden dies im currently getting made are virtually same price at that price I will take John's everytime.
At the end of the day its nice to have choices, ive got 5 different 20 cal cartridges in 9 different rifles so I have plenty of choices I need to have my head examined LOL.

I'm trying to keep up with both you and Rick. I followed suit with what Rick said with the seventeens vs the twenties. Rick was a huge fan of the 17MK4, but decided to go a bit heavier due to the wind factor. That makes total sense to me! I had a 204 ready to come on line. Then to 20VT entered the equation. Being much more efficient and the 204 brass being ridiculously priced, I decided to have The CZ Kid make the brass at the same cost of 204 brass. I hope I worded that right Rick.

I did build a 17FB however. Getting back into this passion, I'm sure I'll be happy with all my novice decisions.

I hear what your saying Rick, but the efficiency of these cartridges will justify my choices and help me get started in the wildcat scene.

Both of you have helped me greatly in this endeavor and I thank you!

Mike, as Sherm said, it's good to have choices, and the various iterations of the FB case is just astounding, as all of them are great!

I'm a fan of 40* case shoulders as well. If I was not already many seasons into the 20VT at the time, I might had easily got into the 20SCC. Efficiency is good. One thing for sure, once you're retired and all your rifles are home, you'll have a new consideration to ponder when gearing up for a rat shoot. And that is the first-world problem of asking yourself "what rifles do I take this time?" Good 'problem' to have, right? lol

Like Sherm, I've got far too many rifles if logic is considered, but in our little world, when did logic really come into play? But I'm an advocate of using one rifle all day in the patch, as you tend to get "into" the rifle and cartridge, its trajectory, and the 'feel' you get shooting just one caliber.....being "one with the rifle" so to speak. But there's always a rifle suited to longer ranges in the truck....just in case.

Sidebar: My Sako L461 Vixen currently wears a Shilen 17M4 barrel in a Boyd's T/H stock and Canjar single set trigger. At my age now, new rifles or new calibers are not on the menu, but I'm seriously thinking about a rebarrel to another 20VT to keep things simple, as this rifle is a heavy one, so perfect for another bench rifle in the patch. I think I'm about done with the .17 cal CF rifles, but my little love affair with the 17HMR will continue. Anything my M4 can do, the 20VT can do, and do it better. Again, JMO.

As you know I built a 17FB, 20VT, 20SCC and 20P. This will be the primary setups for the patch. I too have the rimfires covered, with a couple 17HMRs. You got to have one of those!

Sidebar; I see that Doug is getting a Sako L461 online. The moment I saw it, I put it on my list of considerations for later down the road.
