I hear what your saying Rick, but the efficiency of these cartridges will justify my choices and help me get started in the wildcat scene.
Both of you have helped me greatly in this endeavor and I thank you!
Mike, as Sherm said, it's good to have choices, and the various iterations of the FB case is just astounding, as all of them are great!
I'm a fan of 40* case shoulders as well. If I was not already many seasons into the 20VT at the time, I might had easily got into the 20SCC. Efficiency is good. One thing for sure, once you're retired and all your rifles are home, you'll have a new consideration to ponder when gearing up for a rat shoot. And that is the first-world problem of asking yourself "what rifles do I take this time?" Good 'problem' to have, right? lol
Like Sherm, I've got far too many rifles if logic is considered, but in our little world, when did logic really come into play? But I'm an advocate of using one rifle all day in the patch, as you tend to get "into" the rifle and cartridge, its trajectory, and the 'feel' you get shooting just one caliber.....being "one with the rifle" so to speak. But there's always a rifle suited to longer ranges in the truck....just in case.
Sidebar: My Sako L461 Vixen currently wears a Shilen 17M4 barrel in a Boyd's T/H stock and Canjar single set trigger. At my age now, new rifles or new calibers are not on the menu, but I'm seriously thinking about a rebarrel to another 20VT to keep things simple, as this rifle is a heavy one, so perfect for another bench rifle in the patch. I think I'm about done with the .17 cal CF rifles, but my little love affair with the 17HMR will continue. Anything my M4 can do, the 20VT can do, and do it better. Again, JMO.
