20PPC Reamer

I'm not a competitive shooter but I do shoot a lot of varmint rifles. I don't dabble in non factory rounds very much but I've decided to build a 20PPC and I'm trying to find a reamer print for a no neck turn reamer. Any info would be appreciated. I sold a 204 VSSF and realize thats any easier route but theres something I like about the little PPC. I have a couple factory Sako sporters in
6PPC. I bought some 20PPC brass to see if it would feed in the action I'm butchering and it fed perfectly. I have no idea though if the brass I secured is of the correct dimensions to move forward with a reamer.
I read the site's 20 caliber page. It had a lot of very good information on it. One of the things it commented on was not needing to turn the necks for a varmint rifle stating the accuracy gain was not worth it.
Thanks in advance for any guidance or oipions.

.230 on my reamer, YES i DO turn necks, so you will want larger than that.

Best advice is get your brass and neck it down, make a dummy round and add .002-.003 to it for a no turn chamber for YOUR brass.

Phil.

Thanks. I'll do that.

I was going to use JGS for the reamer, they seem to have a lot of positive feedback.

If JGS is your choice, try calling them...... odds are that they already have what you want, and can easily point you in the right direction.

Phil.

I called them, no luck on a print. The dummy round will work. I need to find some fire formed PPC brass, no neck turn if I can.

If not I may have to go with PTG or maybe just go the 220 Russian necked down. That looks like fun too with little loss to the PPC in velocity.

Hey Phil,

Thanks for the comments.

What bullets are you shooting and how much freebore did you go with?

I talked to JGS this morning who should have a print ready next week sometime. I was going to go with .234 neck and .30 freebore. If you have any thoughts Phil, feel free to share them.

Mine is a varmint gun, it shoots the 39 Sierra B Kings.

I went with a zero freebore as i`m quite sure that it will eventually get to .030 and beyond.

What bullets are you planning on shooting from yours?

Phil.

I wanting to shoot 39/40 grainers. The barrel is a 1 in 11 Mueller, sendero contour. the zero freebore is food for thought.

Do you have a reamer print?

Did you ever get this figured out? I built one to shoot the Berger 50's and now have to redo as they're gone. .05 free bore is to much for just about all pills.

I just had this same rifle built a month ago ( 20 PPC ) no neck turn with a 8.5 PAC-NOR barrel and it shoots a dime size hole at 100 yards while forming cases with 39gr Sierra bullets. It should get better after I am done fire forming and working up different loads. I built this to shoot 39gr - 55gr bullets. I took it last week to shoot p-dogs and it was terrific until my new VORTEX scope took a dump on me. I have the new reamer and print which is a PTG. I waited 8 weeks to get it. I loaded all 300 Lapua cases with 39gr bullets to fire form the cases and have only shot 110 until the scope broke which is sent in for repair. The load was 26.0 grains of Benchmark jammed into the lands with a COL of 2.06" in length at approx 3725 FPS. I strongly recommend this twist barrel for the heavier bullets. I do not plan on shooting a bullet lighter than 39gr. If I can be of more help just let me know.

I end up making my own reamer print which is much like the 20 beggs, jgs made the reamer and I have a mueller barrel with a 1/11 twist. I plan on shooting the 39/40 grainers. Thanks for sharing your rifle project, sounds like it came out great! I have four Sako 75s now for short fat calibers, I'm sending a second rifle to be chambered in a 30br rifle to Jon Beanland along with the 20 cal. Hope your scope gets back to you soon!

Somehow I overlooked this......

I have the print.....somewhere......

Best advice is to form a case and seat your bullet just above the neck / shoulder junction then send it to your reamer maker of choice.

They are in the business of getting it correct for you, let them take it from there.

They may ask you if you want some room for jump, if necessary do it, you need a little room to move either way as we never know exactly what the barrel will want.

Good luck with your project, let us know how it works for you...

Phil.
