I've been searching on here for a day or so now and not quite finding the info I need!!

I'm wanting to build a 20Br as another coyote rifle, looking for some answers or help on the following questions......

I've read that you can neck down the 6Br brass to 22 then using a bushing die get it the rest of the way down and trim?? Is that correct?

Secondly.....what do you do about the expander ball in the die?? Just replace with a 20 cal version?

Third....what real world velocities are people getting out of a 26" barrel using either 50 or 55 Bergers? I'll even take 24" velocities as the gun I build will be primarily a gun a carry doing a lot of walking.

Any other info or nuances on this caliber will be gladly taken!!

Thank you!

Yes I run 6br brass through my 22br form die then down to 20br, I'm running the 55gr Bergers at 3600fps out of a 26" barrel with RL 15.
I have only shot 1 coyote with it and it was a bang flop at 300 yards with no exit.
If you check out Saubier.com they have alot of info on the 20br

Sweet! Thank you!! I'm looking for fur friendly as I can get.....the 55 Bergers out of a 220 Swift can get mean in a hurry on fur, unless of course you back them off. OR shoot 52 Sierras. But the BC on this 20 cal 55 combined with good speed looks like a great calling rifle for coytoes.

Hi,

I run a 20BR with a 27 inch tube and a 1 in 9 twist.

I download the rifle to match the velocity of the others in my cabinet, its also where the best accuracy is. I can drive the 50gr Berger to 3800 yes but I get cratered primers and web expansion. 3500 fps is very sweet, oh and it shoots .2s off a bipod. I use N150 which is a lot slower than the powders you mainly seem to use over there, but I get a nice case fill and low ES figures with it.

I did some of the brass forming, my builder did the rest as it has a fitted neck so others can advise you better than i can. I use dedicated 20BR Redding dies that I bought from Todd Kindler and the Woodchuck Den, an excellent guy and well worth spending 30 mins on the phone with note pad to hand !!.

250 yards on Red fox you usually get exits on chest shots, not dramatic ones though. Shot one last year front on at just under 300 yards with a 39gr SBK, that did not exit. Not tried the 55s yet. Berger 50s are teh BEST bullet I have ever bought for weight matching, first 200 were all 50.0 or 49.9, all of them. Follow up batchs have been almost as good.

Very good info thank you!

I'm going with a 24" barrel on the one I'm having built. I'm hoping for right around 3600. This will be mainly for coyote hunting so I think the 50 grainer will be the bullet of choice for me as well.

Thanks for the input!
