208gr A-max for hunting?

With a 300WM, have you used a A-max bullet for hunting purposes? What are good hunting bullets in the heavy grains for the 300WM. How about the Berger 185 classic hunter? Thanks

amax works well
I use 210 bergers & 208 amax in in a 2 300wm's & a 3006
the Bergers are slightly more accurate
3 inches at 500 v 4 inches at 500
both are very near same poi
some say don't use amax for hunting -but I have had nothing but awesome wound channels from 25 yards & on out
pop can size wounds channels -so place your shots -or you'll lose a lot of meat
their less expensive than the Bergers & fly almost as well -& in my small experience hit harder

When you say Bergers, I assume the target bullets? Good to hear that they are good for long range hunting.

Hunting what?

For deer they will kill as far out as you can accurately place one.

I know Hornady and others say that the AMAX is not for hunting. I load it in a 260 and soon my 06. It is a hammer on W/T's. It is 4out of 5 DRT's in the past two weeks. Go for it!!

Thanks for the information.
I have a 28 inch 10 twist barrel. I have some H4831SC. What can I expect with velocities in a 28 incher with the 208's and 185's?

my boys both got a whitetail
208 amax
2'wound channels in white patch -- DIRT--
on the Berger bullets I use their "hunting" vld's
orange box

I used 178gr A-max in a 300 Win mag at 3250 fps on game a couple times. Excellent deer bullet. I do not shoot a 300 WM for hunting any longer, but my brother-in-law does. I still load that same exact recipe for his Browning BLR 300 WM. Although the speed is a little slower, it's still a hammer. He has killed many deer with it and one cow elk.

What kind of powders are common? Seems R22 gives best density and velocity. I supose I will just have to shoot once it is all together and see for myself.

amax is awesome for hunting i have shot them on multiple continents always a great performer and an easy to tune bullet not picky at all. to me its the best all round bullet for all but thick skinned dangerous game.
