204 ruger help

Howdy all, I'm wanting at least a 4000fps 20 cal and thinking the 204 ruger is about the only one that will constantly do that?? I want to use 26-32gr bullets. Is the 204 ruger my best option? and then would the best twist rate be 1-12 or could i get by with 1-11?
I"m thnking about going with pac-nor for the barrel, they have a saami reamer with .100 freebore and then a match reamer with .063 freebore. Didn't they use weatherby's philosophy when developing the 204 and go with the long freebore to achieve the 4200fps+ and keep the pressure spike down? If i'm chasing the speed should I stay with saami reamer?

if your running the light bullets the 204 isn’t the only one to do it. My 20 tac runs the 39blitzking and 40gr vmax at 4000-4050fps, my buddies 20 prac with the 26 at 4570fps and runs them at 4510fps and the 40’s closer to 3850.

The 204 will do it with ease! He’s running an 11 twist and I have an 11 and a 10 twist (mainly running the 10 twist)

4000 is nothing but a number. As long as you’re in the neighborhood.
Two TAC’s, both 26”, 1/11, 40’s @ 3925, 32’s @ 4125,all with R10X

4000 is no problem with a 204 when shooting the 32's. A 12 twist will be all you need but if you want to shoot the 40's you may want to get an 11 twist. Just don't go with a short barrel

204, 20 Tac, 20Prac and 20SCC are all knocking on the door of 4000 or will with 32gr bullets.
Get one of pac- nors 3G- 11 tw, dont go 12 you never know you may wanna go heavier than 32-34 dont put yourself in a box.
I hate all the freebore in the saami 204 reamer, absolutely no reason to not have zero freebore with the lighter bullets.

My Hornady 11th shows 32gr V-MAX at 4100fps with 28.5gr VV N-140 and that is one step down from max load. Or use the 24gr NTX over 28.7gr X-TERMINATOR for 4400fps, again one step down from max.
The .204 is on my "suspects list" for next year's new I don't need it rifle but want to add it to my go make holes in paper collection. Good luck.

An example of why I hate any or much freebore in a 20 cal with a couple exceptions is on the 34 v- nitemares i shot a ton of in the 7 or 8 20 cal rifles ive shot them in everyone shoots the best from -.005 to + .005 from touch with .100 freebore impossible, well not impossible but surely not ideal by any means.

He’s using xterminator powder, and 26gr Barnes don’t want to say the charge as it’s darn quick and don’t want anyone getting hurt without testing

Yes you will have to get your own reamer or find somebody who has one.
Which would you rather have the most accuracy or a few less fps.
I've never tested a reamer that has .100 frebore to a zero one in a small cal never cared to I want everything stacked in my favor to shoot bugholes.
What kills accuracy or speed?
What wins matches Accuracy or speed?
If all your ever gonna shoot is factory ammo doesn't matter anyway

My 204r with 35gr bergers im getting 3880 fps and not leaning on it. I just wanted accuracy. With my 20p im getting 3820fps with 40gr vmax not leaning on it. Bith with 22in barrels. To me i did not care about 4k fps as long as it was accurate. I will tell you those 40gr vmax at that speed nail coyotes with some force and a very loud thud. More so than my 223 with a 50gr vmax.

I shoot a 24 grain factory Hornady at 4400 fps in a 1/10 twist, deadly out to 300 yards, a little wind sensitivity to be aware of.

I have had multiple .204 rugers all custom builds, some of them I used saami reamer, some I used match reamer with .035 freebore and tighter neck. .204 sure doesn’t seem to mind the jump in the saami chambering never had a problem getting them to shoot. Don’t think you would go wrong either way. The only downside to the .204 is brass availability and price, I like to have at least 1k pieces. One option i did was just short chambered a .204 saami reamer just shy of .100” and cut around the same off of a .204 fl sizing die, just run .223 brass through the die and your good to go, like a 20practical with a 30 degree shoulder.

The CZ 527 204 I sold to a buddy had so much freebore that a 32gr Vmax would basically fall out of the neck if you tried to touch the lands and the Tikka I currently have only has slightly less FB then that CZ I had. The Hornady 32gr Vmax ammo is jumping a mile before it hits the lands but that stuff does shoot really well in both the CZ I had and the Tikka I currently own.

Given the option, go with the match chamber. Besides for shorter freebore it just easier on brass life. The SAAMI chamber is kinda sloppy.
