.204 or ?

I like both my 204 and my 20 VT but I believe you are missing on both of these. 204 Ruger seems impossible to find at the moment and there is nothing hard about forming 20 VT brass.

What he said! I have had Ruger brass on backorder from Nosler for months.

Forming 20VT Brass was as simple as one run through a 20VT die with 221 Fireball brass and away you go.

Probably one of the, if not thee, best 20 cal rounds available IMO. Especially for shooting colony rats.

Ive decided to go with the 204R. My reasons are 1). I have 500 unfired Nosler brass and about that many once fired Hornady brass, even though the Hornady may be less desirable, 2) I know the 204 can do the job at longer distances and I will have potential shots on larger varmints (fox and coyote) at that distance, and 3) since I am really hooked on the idea of the VT, my Rem 700 is going to be rebuilt for that caliber.
If this plan works out, I"ll have both calibers.
Thanks for all the many fine suggestions offered here. It helped me come to a decision Im satisfied with.

Sounds great. Let us know how it turns out :)

Is your Rem 700 a Fireball action? If not "and" if you want to use it as a repeater there "could be" some feed and ejection issues. There are some differences between the Fireball and non-fireball actions s well as the bolt face.

This is correct. Guess I was obsessed with the idea of changing my .221 LVSF to a VarTarg and forgot his 700 is a .204.
Would really be nice would if one of the big gun manufacturers would spare us all some re-barreling/re-chambering grief and $ and just chamber a rifle in .20 VT; e.g. CZ's 527, or Howa's upcoming "mini-action" line would be ideal candidates.
