204 Load Development

I have used the ladder test method to develop loads for larger calibers in the past and it worked out well. Just wondering if anyone has used this method for smaller calibers and how it worked out. How much did you up the powder charge for each consecutive round? Thanks in advance.

I used .5 when well below max and the closer to max the smaller increments I would use. About .2 when you get close.

Thanks. I'll be using Benchmark and H4895 with 35gr Bergers. I've heard pretty good things about 10X, but it is hard to find in my neck of the woods. Any other suggestions for powders?

I increase my charge weight in .2 grain increments. I get about a 50 fps, depending) increase with each step up. The little cartridge builds pressure rapidly so I would use small increments.

Look for groups that are small and hit the target at the same POI with a charge increase. That way you will find a load that shoots good and is forgiving if your charge weight is off a little.

H4895, Benchmark, VV N-133 and RE-10X would be great choices depending on the application. For speed, RE-10X and H4895 get the nod. For the tightest groups I'd turn to Benchmark or N-133. Your mileage may vary depending on what your particular rifle likes.
