204 for accuracy

Hello folks,

I've kinda caught the bug to see how tight of a group I can get my 204 to shoot. My pet load has been a Sierra 39bk over RL10x. That combo will shoot very well, but you know how it goes... The 35 or 40 Berger has caught my my eye. So putting performance on varmints aside, what is your best bullet/powder combo in your 204?

I use 35gr bergers with H4895. I have since quit shooting it due to low on that powder. I just dont wanna fool around and find another load for it right now.

H322 and 32 Grn Vmaxs. Super accurate in My 12 twist Savage and Cooper. H322 can no longer be found. When I run out I'll be looking for something else.

I don't reload , but achieved this 6 shot group at 100 yards benched using a dirt cheap Thompson Center Venture,a 4x20 Weaver Grand slam scope,and a 1lb trigger done by Mcarbo in Florida.factory ammo was HSM trophy Gold 35 grain Berger match varmint flat base 3900 fps with a bc 0.262 you can really reach out and touch something with devastating results.

Hot load of either H4198 & or IMR4198 pushing a 32 grain v-max or a 32 gr BK has been a go to for lots of folks.

Accurate LT32 with the 39 BK's or 32 and 40 V-Max. I found the 35 Bergers shoot no better in my rifles.

barrel= 1-11” @ 22” long..


I’d hope you’d be able to do better with larger case capacity & 39gr BK..maybe 10X powder ??..

I'd take it, but my rig and ammo is cheap, as long as I hit my furry targets i'm good, you'd be to with that group.

Benchmark, Rem 7.5 primers and 40 grain Bergers shoot tiny groups in my 204 and my 20 practical.

I get some very small and consistant groups with CFE 223 in my 204's. Others do so with RL10x, that I have seen.

Reloader 10x & sierra 39’s in my old ruger target gray.

After trying Xbr 8208 with Hornady,BIB and Nosler 40's and the 39 Sierra. I never tried another powder. All the bullets shot great at the same charge weight. Makes loading simple.

I have shot quite a bit of CFE 223, 29.9 gr with 39 BK's, they seem to run 1/2 MOA or better

3 shot 28.4 gr H4895 with 32 gr VMax was 1/3 MOA
