Well, we ‘got ‘er did’! It was a little wet, but only a couple folks got dripped on Saturday, and even fewer folks got wet on Sunday!
Those that skipped Sunday’s match missed out on a fairly pleasant day to shoot! Decent temperatures overall (getting pretty nice today, actually), and light winds made for some great scores.
We ended up with a total of 25 folks that came out to have some fun with us for our Delaware Mid-Range State Championship Match.
As always, I need to thank everyone for help putting up and tearing down the targets –we couldn’t do it without your help, so THANK YOU!
We also
ALL need to thank Nikki and George for all that they do to provide us a nice place to shoot. That grass doesn’t cut itself, and those scoresheets aren’t ‘autofill’…
Before we get into the scores, and who won, I recently read a post on the National Match forum that really resonated with me. In the post author talked about folks who start looking for their scores from the top down, and others who start looking from the bottom up. It was a really great post that I wanted to include here, but he hasn’t given me permission to share it yet.
At any rate, I want to congratulate every shooter who showed up this weekend –top dog, middle dog, old dog, or young dog. We all have our own ‘stuff’ to deal with, yet you came out to shoot with us. Thank you.
The author of the post referenced President Teddy Roosevelt’s speech “Citizenship in a Republic” in 1910 in Paris. I think it still bears thinking about today –perhaps you will too.

OK, enough sentimentality –on to the results…
Starting with F-T/R, Jerry Brindle took the category win, firing a nice 1196-83X. Nice shooting, for sure Jerry! Jerry shot clean today, posting a nice 600-40X.
Just a little bit back, was Todd Norfleet, who posted an 1180-54X for the silver medal. Well done, Todd!
Only a couple points behind Todd was Deanna Brindle, who posted a pretty sweet 1178-56X, firing a .223 Remington. Nicely done Deanna!!
In other F-T/R news, Master Class shooter Mike McNair was on a roll this weekend, posting what I am pretty sure is a High Master score at 1176-50X. Well done, Mike!!
If you aren’t aware, Mike is quite the Ambassador to the sport, and has brought several new folks out to the range and into competition –also well done!
Over in F-Open, it was a Battle Royale! Three local boys went into today’s match with only one point of separation 599/599/600, but at the end of the day one of them kept his cool to take the win.
Dave Kokoszka fired a super nice 1197-78X for the Silver medal and third place –well done Dave!
Just ahead of Dave was Jack Neith, who fired an also super-nice 1198-86X for the Gold medal –nicely done, Jack.
At the end of the day though, Herb Egberts fired a high-X clean today (600-42), for a combined aggregate of 1199-86X, taking the Match win, and taking home the Delaware State F-Class Champion Trophy and title. Well done, Herb!
In sling territory, Tom Snodgrass fired an 1163-46X for the Silver Any Rifle medal. Well done, Tom! Rich Kussman took the Gold Any Rifle medal, firing a nice 1184-60X. In truth, Tom couldn’t decide if he was a Palma shooter, or an Any rifle shooter this weekend, so he ended up in Any sort of by default J.
On the Palma side of things, Joe Fogg struggled a bit due to some issues with his new Palma rifle, but as today’s match went on, those problems seemed to be overcome as he pulled out a 199-17X for the last match of the day. Joe ended up firing a nice 1179-66X for the Silver medal in the Palma class. I think that rifle shoots, Joe! Ray Smith had a pretty good weekend with his .308 Palma rifle too, firing a nice 1189-68X for the Gold medal. Well done, Ray!
At the end of the match, though, Jon Howell (now known as Mr. Consistency for his Saturday scores, (200-14/200-14/200-14) sheesh…), posted a very nice 1198-79X for the Sling win, and Delaware State Conventional Mid-Range Championship. Incidentally, Jon shot a .223 Remington Palma rifle all weekend….
Again, I thank you all for coming out to our match, braving the predicted rain, and for your generous donations to our State Association. It is all much appreciated.
