2023 UBR 200/300 Nationals

Yes, I finished dead last in the grand agg. Couldn't see the target for the mirage and the wind was so switchy BUT it must have been just me as a new record was set. Was suppose to be a 2 day event, we did it in one, was suppose to switch benches after 200 but didn't, not using any of this as an excuse as I just suck. Will be posting guns for sale soon, may keep one as @JimPag has decided it may be time to move on.

Thanks Jackie for a well ran match and a big Congratulations to all the winners. That was definitely some pretty tough shooting conditions. Thanks to all the vendors that contributed the prizes. A big Thank You to Danny Hensley for keeping me from being a spectator.

It was certainly a tough day but a couple of guys had it going well and deserve a hard earned big congratulations for their great shooting. Congrats to Brud, Danny and Richard! Way to go!

As you can see, there were some good shooters that were humbled at time. Several failed to shoot all the targets! Say what? Yes, when the mirage is so bad that you can't see sighters, records or your targets, it's easier than you'd think in really switchy winds and going back and forth from sighter to record, to miss one. I did it and I'd have sworn I shot that bull but...it's was like shooting blindfolded at times. I'm a big proponent for shooting it twice rather than taking a zero, if you're not absolutely sure you shot that bull. I was "that" sure and chose not to shoot it again. I was wrong. That's how disorienting it was at times. Hard to describe it but it bit a few of us so it wasn't just one.

My first target at 300, before mirage I could see, 52 out of possible 55
You don't need to throw in the towel. You got blown completely off the sighter and into the record bull! That and shoot all of them(iirc) and you're in the running! Tough day..Yep. Reason to quit..not at all. You've had some good days. It's a matter of putting it all together consistently and that comes with experience. Not to mention, you shoot in a crowd of "MULTIPLE" national champions and record holders just about every match in your area. Nobody's gonna win them all in that crowd. I was just as frustrated by it yesterday but I had a good time and there's no way in hell I'm quitting and I've struggled a lot of late...probably more than ever in my BR shooting career. It just means I've got to bear down that much harder. I've been doing this for a while now and I know you're on the cusp of breaking out. Some days you're the windshield and some days you're the bug. SPLAT! Lol! I was a greasy spot on the the glass yesterday too buddy!

I appreciate that thought and encouragement! Just so darn frustrated! I really think we should have moved the 6 benches too, I've had that #1 bench 3 times in a row now and it sucks. I saw your frustration when you didn't shoot one of your targets and couldn't believe when I shot the sighter it hit a record target! I did (and always do) have a good time seeing everyone and catching up on what is going on. Thanks Mike. PS I noticed you purchased a LOT of regulation targets to practice at home!!

I had been trying to catch Danny or someone with extra targets to buy for a while. I don't use them all the time but had just about run out and I like to hang a real target sometimes, too. No magic in that at all but it helps to do everything in practice, just like a match. When I get serious about my practice, I try to do everything just like match conditions. The biggest mistake people make imo is spending too much time tuning to shoot zeros in ideal conditions when we are way better off establishing a solid tune and practicing in bad conditions...and always, always, with wind flags.

You can't blame equipment for missed wind calls. That shot that blew into the record wasn't equipment. Same goes for shooting a 9 at just about any time. What is the math here? Mathematically I think a perfectly centered .758 group is all 10's or 11's at 100. That's not equipment either. Easy, right? Not a gun there that was a .758 moa rifle. It's a tough game and tough competition, for sure but practice in the conditions you shoot in to improve...or worse than you typically shoot in! I'm talking to you but myself too. Even if my numbers aren't quite right, the point is still the same brother.
