2023 NRA HP rules .... Suppressors in AR Tactical

I don't see the big advantage a supressor adds to an AR, to be honest. I just like my hearing and those flash hiders can get a bit loud under the right conditions. I would like to see the whole class cleaned up and given a proper standard. It's a lot of fun. I'd love to see them keep mag length ammo and also allow SLEDs, but that's just me. There's something to be said for avoiding the ballistics arms race and just shooting 77s with everyone else. The targets are too big, but the f class targets are too small. Not sure if it's worth a new target, but the big ones are probably good enough for the class (as I envision it at least).
Damon, I agree. Suppressors are fine, SLED's should be legal and mag length ammo used. As far as target, it's not too big. No one's really complaining about F Class being too big with 200's shot regularly in F Open. X count determines the winner. Same for AR Tactical.

On the one hand, it seems like a long-overdue step forward.

On the other hand... I think someone already brought up the mirage off the can @ 15x. The other thing that will make it... interesting... is the amount of $hit that gets blown back into the receiver of an AR with a DI gas system, and transferred to the chamber. I have some serious doubts about how well that's going to hold up over the duration of a 3x600 match. And yes, I think the .223 is low-recoil enough that the amount of recoil reduction is going to be of strictly academic - and negligible - effect.

I think it may be a case of something cool to try... but not sure it's going to be a game changer.

Because they didn't do tactical at all or because they said you were out of spec?
I was joking. Greg (Ned) and I shoot at the same club. We have sling matches and F class, but for whatever reaon, the AR tactical class hasn't really taken off with either crowd. I brought my service rifle to an F class match one day and did... badly. In my defense, it was mag length 77s with a 4.5x scope, and the first time I had ever shot that rifle off a bipod, and somehow I didn't come in dead last.

But it was one of the best times I've had shooting "f class". zero load development, just load and go. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday. If more people were into it locally, I'd probably do it properly.

Damon - I was told that anyone wishing to participate in AR Tactical need only attend the HighPower Matches, which is where those matches have been offered since their inception for the obvious reason of the targets used. F-Class was not initially set up with the appropriate targets to host AR Tactical matches. With the incorporation of e-targets at ENGC, it has now become a moot point and either group could host AR Tactical matches, but I believe they are still considered to be part of the HighPower group. I shot an F-TR rifle at several of the HighPower matches last year as a "practice match" and I don't recall anyone shooting in AR Tactical, but you could if you wanted to.

Let me know if you're interested in trying that this year, I'll do it with you. I'll wager anything you care to risk that I can shoot a lower score than you. ;) Come on out, it'll be fun.

Yeah, I think either way, there's not many if any shooting it regardless of which match. I may actually try it at a couple matches this year. Maybe more people will give it a whirl.

I think my last score was 540 or something like that? It was low, so bring your A game.

I can get under that, easily. LOL.
