2023 NBRSA Score Nationals

73 of the NBRSA’s finest score shooters are gathered at the NRA Whittington center’s Coors Benchrest range to do battle starting Tuesday. Lots of testing, tuning, and practice happening today and tomorrow.
But best of all is catching up with friends from all over the US. Truly a good time to catch up on a years worth of fun, facts, and everyone’s experiences.
Come Tuesday and we will all still be friends but the serious business of competition will start.
We will work to get daily results posted here as well.
I wish everyone here good luck.
Wish the rest of you were here also.

Great shooting John! Keep it together tomorrow and win the NBRSA VFS Nationals two years in a row!

We are having a great time so far at Raton.

We have six shooters from The Tomball Gun Club shooting VFS.

Here is a view over my Rifle. Conditions were from really nice to not really nice.

I had a decent day, basically one bad target, but managed to come back.

200 yards tomorrow. That is when the real fun begins.

Today, we shot the 200 yard leg of the VFS match. The day started a bit warmer that yesterday but with good conditions to start. As the day progressed, conditions got a little tougher as a mountain thunderstorm built up and indeed, we had a rain delay after match 4.
But when all was said and done, Mr. John Cascarino had dominated again.
Top three were:
John Cascarino - 250-12X
Durward Wofford - 250-10X
Tom Anderson - 250-10X

Below is attached the full results for the match.

Grand Agg of the 2023 NBRSA Score Nationals.
Since John Cascarino won both the 100 yard leg and the 200 yard leg, it goes without saying that he won the Agg

Second Place Mike Bigelow 500-30X
Third Place Wayne Corley 50029X.

I can’t say how much we enjoyed this Nationals and what a fine job Al, Joe and crew did. Raton is such a beautiful facility.

John was on another planet. It is difficult to fathom how such a nice guy can be such a fierce competitor.

Congratulations to him on a fantastic performance.

Jackie looks like you made a great showing too, Congratulations.
Glad to see Mike Bryant did well also.

Congratulations Mr John C! One of the best humans you will ever come across! Couldn’t be happier for him! Congrats to everyone that got to the match and had a good time.

One of the really strange things, (to me), or might I say the surprising thing was that the exact same load I shoot in Houston, which is basically at sea level with 95 degree temperatures and 100% humidity, shot really great at Raton at 6000 feet elevation, 95 degrees, and virtually no humidity when compared to Houston.

I was all prepared to do some serious load work up. I had 4198, LT-30, and N-130 with me. A load of N-130 that had shot great the week end before in Tomball was dead on.

my big disappointment was that nine I shot in match three at 200. Our relay was shooting in a heavy right to left crosswind, I was on 2 1/2 lines of hold, and I simply missed a let up that let the bullet sneak out of the 10 ring by about 1/16 inch, straight to the right.

It was a mental mistake. My Rifle did it’s job, I let it down.

John truly is as nice as they come. But he is tough as nails and seven feet tall when he sets down behind that gun. “Big John” would be an apt description.
Ya John is about 5'5" on a good day but the little SOB creedmores me more than anyone that I shoot against especially in Vermont. We always laugh about that. We were in VT last September. It was Sunday and we had to shoot 200 yards. I walked up to him at his bench about 5 minutes before the match started. I said look you little guinea bas***d, you better not creedmore me or your going to find out what our ancestor's use to do in Sicily. At the end of the match we both shot a 250-9X's, Guess who creedmored me. At the end of the match I walked up to him and I said to him guess who creedmored me Cascarino? He said no and I said yup. Well he started cracking up and I couldn't help but laugh.

Does the location change each year for this match?

I am looking to get started shooting VFS. I am going to start shooting a local match near me and would like to attend a national event one day.

I have been to Raton several time and always enjoyed the facility and the scenery.

It's about 10 hrs from my front door, so very doable in one day.
