2020 Southwest Nationals Scores

That is not within the rules. He used carpet, which is within the rules of FTR and suggested by the rule book. The person or persons that are making these accusations are using this as an excuse for their losing ways. Perhaps instead of working on the aim of their accusations, they should work on the aim
of their rifles.

Heard a report PJ used a grooved shooting matt. Any truth to this and is a protest filed?

As anyone that uses a ski-type bipod with narrow feet in F-TR can tell you, it is almost impossible for the feet not to leave some kind of impression over time in many of the totally legal surfaces that are used to support them. That's just the way it is. I do not know Peter personally, but as an F-TR shooter, I keep my ear to the ground and I am well aware of his skill and accomplishments. He has worked as hard as anyone to achieve his reputation as one of the very best in the sport and I find this kind of comment to be inappropriate for this forum and an insult to his impressive accomplishment. He didn't win because of the mat under his bipod, he won because of his hard work and skill.

Having shot FTR for the last four years, I have shot some very good scores with out any grooved mats.
I had a older model Joy-pod and always used carpet mat with a very low cut that left no grooves.
I don't think a grooved mat would be any advantage other than it may help to prevent a cross fire.
If you have a good shooting process that checks the number boards, it really does not matter.
I see a lot of shooters use a deep pile shag or loop type of carpet that I think is questionablel, but it falls into a gray area that
the rules don't really define. I think it is kind of funny how some shooters think THIS CARPET will give me a win.
When winning really comes down to true ability. Having been on the receiving end of a protest, I make an effort to avoid the grey areas
and only use equipment that won't be in question.

I do think the NRA should change the wording about mats and grooves to clearly define what is the correct way to shoot off a bi-pod.
There are still many grey areas in the F-class rules that need clarified or simplified. It is difficult to write rules that will always apply, when
shooter are constantly pushing the envelope to what is allowed. Seams like the current trends drive the rules. If a large number of shooters
use a certain piece of equipment that falls into the uncertain, the NRA usually adopts this trend as OK. Especially if this group of shooters are the
top tier winners.

Lets all do our part to keep this sport positive and fun and less talk of protests.

I for one don’t think it matters a whit what carpet you use. Peter won because he pointed the rifle in the right places, the carpet didn’t buy him 12 points over second place, and I believe I can be pretty confident in that opinion.

Not Rumor mongering, Best way to squelch rumors is to get right to the point of the matter. Its a legitimate question. You cant support the 2nd Amendment and suppress the 1st Amendment in situations like this by making insults. Things like this should be discussed to avoid future controversy. If I put a bi pod in the dirt the feet will leave grooves especially in the winter time. What needs to be changed to avoid this situation in the future.

No, the best way to squelch rumors is to not pass them around when you don't have the facts. If you feel the need to chase down a rumor, go to the match director. Or the NRA who are the only governing bodies. Anything else is just gossip whoring from someone who wasn't there and that's quite enough of that.

Myself, I have a long way to go, but we can all aspire to being good enough one day to the point where people are protesting our gear at big matches. Congratulations Peter, you're there!

I've attached some 2020 BSWN FTR analysis below for those that might be interested.

What's funny to me is that now all of a sudden using carpet under a bipod is being questioned in FTR. It's been going on since ski type bipods have came on the scene in FTR (several years ago). It's nothing new. If Peter would have finished mid pack and not dominated the match would anything have been said about his carpet? I doubt it........

Great shooting!

Anyone know if an equipment list will be posted? I always find those interesting to look at.

All competitors should of received an email with a link to a equipment list form. Once we get all of the data we will compile it and release the information.

It is important that all shooters complete this form in order to maintain the continued support from our sponsors.
