RECAP:
Rattlesnake sandbagged the whole lot of us with weather reports predicting sunny days and gentle breezes. In reality, we got a pounding sun and brutal, fishtailing winds. I recall only one relay (Day 3 @ 800) that had a condition that persisted longer than about 30 seconds.
I don't have a lot of information on the sling competition, other than to say that Jim Obermeyer has been tearing it up lately. He's clearly juicing and whatever it is, I want some. The scores he posted are amazing, especially considering the conditions - the runner's up and competition he faced are no slouches, but when you look at the daily aggs, it really stands out.
For F-Open, the match was very tight all the way through Day 2 at 1000 yards (with the top 3 within 1-2 points of each other), where Jay apparently decided to shoot some other match with different conditions, and dropped off the pace a bit with a rough go at 1000. Keith and Tod were neck and neck, all the way through the very last relay where Keith "The Wind Witch" Glasscock somehow took a 10 minute break in the middle of the string, then came back in an entirely different condition than what he started with and shot an 'X' to resume his string. (NOTE: all three of us stopped at the same time and it was there that I thought I might make up ground on Keith and Tod because I was only 1 down at that point, halfway through my string, while Keith and Tod hung 8's. I *think* Keith might even have hung two of them at that point; I remember thinking that opportunity was knocking). I'm pretty sure that if this was the 1800's, Keith would be in danger of being burned at the stake for being a witch.
In FTR, Jerry Teo shot consistently through all three matches and managed the withstand a two day charge from Bill Prue. Bill recovered very nicely from a rough Day 1.
Next month is the WA State LR Championship, shot all at 1000. If you are anywhere within range and really want to challenge your wind reading skills, I highly recommend giving Rattlesnake a try.
As a last note, James Obermeyer, Bill Prue, and Tod Hendricks all won our local state LR Distinguished leg points.
