2013 Arizona Long Range State Championship this weekend

One of my favorite matches takes place at the world class Ben Avery Shooting Facility this weekend, 23-24 November. Two days of 3X20X1000. This match, and the Arizona State Palma Championship two weeks later, are great warmup matches for the Berger SW LR Nationals 5-9 February, 2014. [br]
I assume all the fine Arizona shooters will be there. Anyone else making the trip?

I will be attending ! I will be staying North of Ben Avery at Hampton Inn? I think.

This will be my first big match other than the local matches I have shot. I am hoping to meet those of you that post regularly on the forum and pick your brains and hopefully learn a lot.

If any of you attending are up for a meal during your downtime or stay at the hotel, shoot me a PM with your number.

I have four brand new trophy plaques to hand out to the winners of F-Open, F-TR, Sling Any and Palma Rifle. Now the only thing left to do is see who wants one the most!!

Thanks for posting this Steve and congratulations on your victory in 29 Palms last week.

Thanks, Rick. Heck, I'd even show up if I knew there would be another a** chewin' from Mid. ;)

;D Speaking of which, anyone who has not mailed in there entry can avoid a Mid A$$ chewing by scanning it and emailing it to me. That way I can get you into the system and have your scorecards ready to go. You only then need to pay at the window on Saturday morning! If you snail mail it now he wont get it in time so email your complete entry form to imsteelyeyed@gmail.com

I just finished putting together the trophy plaques for this weekends match. Obviously we wont know whose name and score will go on these awards until the dust settles on Sunday. This is the first time in a very long time that plaques have been awarded and I would be remiss if I didn't give a shout-out to some folks who were instrumental in getting these babies ready. First and foremost I want to thank Allan Rosenthal and his crew of master craftmen at Linear Fine Woodworking for taking time in there very busy schedule to turn a bunch of wood planks into beautiful trophys. They even got the plexi-glass for the photos and the engraved copper plates! John Rumary at Crown Trophy who opened his doors to me, giving me free run of his shop and the use of his very handy press for pushing in the little studs to secure the plexi over the pictures. Last but not least Kristiane Trejo at PRI Graphics for the outstanding service on the engraved plates, in record time I might add. The copper tone truly helps make it an Arizona trophy all the way around!

Granted, four plaques is a small start, but it is a great start in recognizing those who step into the searing crucible of head to head competition and emerge victorious.

See you on the line!

You can go ahead & put my name on the Palma trophy with a score of 600-45x. I'll pick it up sat morning before shooting starts :)

I don't think a 600-45X will get you a trophy in a 1200-120X Championship! ;)

I and two buddies will be there this weekend too. Probably not for the Palma.
See you there!

No Palma, Nik, 1000 yard, only. The Berger SW LR features both individual and team Palmas, but none this weekend. [br]
See you on the line. :)

***ERROR*** Sorry, Nik. Didn't realize you were referring to the Palma Championship two weeks later. :-[

A little rain? It's more like this weekend might be the Arizona Long Range Championships and Mud Bog Championships on the shores of Lake Ben Avery!!!! :o

For those of you who are coming in for the Long Range match this weekend, I want to share some details about our plans regarding the weather. Right now it looks like we will more than likely see rain tomorrow morning. If this is the case, we plan to wait for it to clear. If by noon, it has not cleared, we will call it for the day. Those folks who paid for two days will get Saturdays money refunded. Sunday we would then shoot the 3X1000 as outlined in the match program.

Day one of this Championship is in the books. Due to some light rain and the promise of more moving in we decided to delay the match start time to noon. Consequently we had to shorten the 3X1000 to a 2X
In F Open David Gosnell pounded out a pair of 199's to take a two point lead over Steven Blair. In F-TR local hotshot Steve Lockwood is the day one leader by three over Nikolas Montin and Rocky Felix. Felix posted a division high overall score for the day in match two. In the sling we had Ken Nelson put on clinic with a pair of 198's to take a one point lead over Justin Skaret and the Palma division saw its own close battle between myself and Mike Kelley. Overall the abbreviated day was fair to all with no single relay seeing much difference in the wind and light. We will take the line tomorrow to see who will write their names in the rich Championship history of this event. As usual I'm sure it will come down to who wants it the most.
