The BBB involves busting baloons at Heavy class 400 yds, Light class 300 yds, and Factory class 200 yards. My goal was to win factory class. Big G, George Coleman is the range master. He told me a couple years before that if anyone every brings a Sako A=1 up here they will win the Factory class. So I went on search and found one at The Shooter's Corner in New Jersey. I was afraid of the PPC and first because I had read and heard so much negative press on it, mainly that it was hard to reload for. A cartridge that is the most shot, biggest winner of all time in short range benchrest up to 300 yards can't be too difficult to master. But first year I went to BBB with it I had only had it a couple of weeks and had not mastered it yet. Fast forward a year and I have confidence now in a PPC.
Late in the afternoon they got to the Factory class. They had I believe 12 benches and there were 5 relays registered so close to 60 rifles. The game is this :: Ten baloons at 200 yards. Shoot-off would be 3 shots on a paper bullseye with no warm up or sighters. Late in afternoon and as I remember the wind was giving it up. I only had a 8 x 25 Leupold on for this. Record fire begins :: My relay was in the middle, maybe 3rd relay. My first shot i hoped and touched the ten ring high at 12 noon. With the 25 power I was not absolutely sure if it touched or not. But I did not wasnt to hold any different because the ten ring was half dollar size and I was afraid if might fall out of ring if I held different. Second shot was better, cutting the first and on low side so I knew I was in 10 ring with it. Now nervous, as I have two shots cutting each other at 200 and if I can land one more shot in that cluster touching I know no one will beat that group. Shot #3--YESSSS!!!!! Praise the lord! I could see through the Leupold that the third shot was in ten ring and cut the other two shots. Now my only worry was , Did the first shot touch the 10 ring or was it out. I knew if shot one touched line I had this thing. with a perfect clover leaf at 12 noon.
Thirteen rifles had been in the shoot-off. Now we are waiting for the perfect 30 score targets to be measured as tie breaker. I stayed away from the scoring table as I did not want to jinx myself and did not want to see the other targets.
They began to call the top three and my name was not called for 3 rd or 2nd.
