200 Yards Today With My Lakefield Mark I

I finally reached the 8' x 10' - 3/16' gong at 200 yards today. It was not with the rifle I thought I would have used to get there for the first time, as I decided to grab the lesser Lakefield Mark I Single Shot with a 3-7x20 BSA scope, that is zeroed for 50 yards.

I really only intended to shoot 50 yards today at paper, but when getting my target stand and setup out of the back of my van, I decided to go with the gong setup instead and just try getting this Lakefield out to 200 yards. I always figured it would be my Savage Mark II FVT with the 6-24x42 Mil-Dot scope I'd reach 200 yards with first.

Rather then me trying to explain my aiming points through this little scope, I drew a diagram that you can see by clicking on the following link that shows the aiming points at 150 & 200 yards. There is also other info on the diagram if you care to read my chicken scratch hand writing which includes todays weather, and the ammo I used;

Needless to say this little Lakefield has earned a new scope!

Here is a link to the gong I carried to the range today and ended up using. Those are all new hits on it,5 came from 100 yards), the rest were 150 & 200 yards;

All shooting today was done off the Range's picnic table that sets on the firing line as the carpet on the benches were soaking wet. I used my rifle's bipod and set up on top of my range box and shot from there. I did not have a great sight picture at 200 yards, but I had a good enough one for getting it done today.

On average from 200 yards I was able to hit 3 shots out of every 5, and once I actually hit 4 out of 5 shots on the gong.

I think I will put a 3-9x32 Bushnell on this rifle? I never really intended to use it for 200 yard shooting.
