200 grain Berger hybrid

Anyone use this bullet on game? I gave my buddy a box as there was nothing else available to load for a Utah deer hunt. He shot a buck at about 300 yards and the bullet penetrated 5" and disintegrated. He had a nasty tracking job and finally got a second shot in and it did the same thing. Now I am thinking I have 3 boxes of bullets that aren't good for much! I have had great luck with the VLDs and thought that a 200 grain bullet would have to be good?

Any ideas?

I will be more than happy to take those 200 hybrids off your hands if you wanna get rid of them.

First shot was in the a$$ as he bumped his scope off in a fall. Second shot much closer and after a long tracking job was in the high chest cavity I guess- I wasn't there and didn't see the carnage myself. I just know he was hugely disappointed having killed a lot of game and having this experience with his first Berger.

I have seen about 10 head of game killed with 180 Hybrids out of 7mms. There was always good penetration. Always exited. Always.

I would have thought the same with this 200 but not so. Maybe there is too much jacket air space or something. Only difference in the target and hunting is that the hunting jackets are THINNER. They are worried about over penetration, not lack thereof.

My son did. Distance was 618 yards.
