20 VT possible new hornady factory round?

Any possibility Hornady will factorize the 20 VT? It’s a niche they should scratch.

With the current crop of mini actions out I figured it would have already been done. They could call it the 20 AVC (Advanced Varmit cartridge) stating they spent several years developing it.

Don't know about Hornady, but I've spent time at Nosler extolling the virtues of the 20VT to management and came away with the feeling that big game cartridges are only what matters to them and not varmint cartridges like the 20VT.

Reasons stated were 'too much expense to get both SAAMI and CIP testing and approval'.

Seems like a large market being ignored to me, but what do I know? In the meantime, rock chucks, pd's and ground squirrels will continue to get smacked with our 'wildcat' 20VT's.

Sure..if they move the shoulder .001 ahead and the neck .002 shorter so they can claim development and rights from Todd.
This is spot on. They tweaked the ppc and grendel and called it arc. Copied the henderson trimmer and put their name on it. As for supporting their stuff, they came out with the RCMs but they flopped due to poor marketing. They do an annual run of brass. they necked down the 300 rcm, called it the 6.5 prc and marketed it as the next great thing. The creedmoor is not much more than a 250ai with a 30° shoulder and shoulder moved slightly forward and raised pressures. Its about marketing, marketing, marketing

After having played with numerous center fire and rimfire varmint cartridges, I don’t see anyone moving forward on a “new” one.
Only thing I can think of would be a better WSM case and in a light 20 caliber. Problem there is there are not good examples out there for a “big” rimfire action.

It’s really not a matter of if I can get brass. It would just be be nice to be able to go buy a box of shells and a rifle off the rack. (I know.. amongst hand loaders this is blasphemy)

I’ve done too much playing with oddball and custom chambering to want to go down that road again. Especially in this day and age.

They have literally filled every other caliber dimension up but so far the 204 Ruger is the stand alone factory 20 caliber out there.

Whats odd ball when you buy the brass made and load it just like a 204, 223, 222 ect.
There is no difference other than in your mind. A no turn " custom" reamer is no different than a saami one.
I travel a lot. If I take a rifle with me I want to have the ability to buy factory ammo when I’m out and about. Usually why a 223 or a 17 Hornet goes. Being close to home is one thing with access to reloading equipment or more ammo. 1000 miles from home is entirely different.. so this is why I inquire on if it may ever become a factory round.

While my erlier comment is snarky, the othe rside of that comment may go something like "Remington made a bunch of cool cartridges but the disconnect between between marketing guys and the gun guys/developers there was a gulf that usually ended in such groaners as the 350 Rem Mag". I always wondered why the 5mm Rem Mag ended up a dud...but looking back...it was the disconnect...a crap gun and a poor amount of support. In that area, Hornady does an exceptional job...and we have seen a huge change across the industry because of it. (Even though they just brought back the 22PPC like it was never a thing....)

If Remington would have loaded the 260 with something other then a 140gr cor lokt and not forgot about it after 2 years…. Hornady does just reinvent the wheel but they support it at least. I’m always tired of hearing how great the 22 creed is… you do know you bought a 22-250 right? The 22 ARC another one where it’s just a 22 ppc with a tweak here and there. However go try and buy a box of 22ppc. Meanwhile 22Arc is everywhere.

Too bad Remington never made a 20 Fireball in the LVSF, a few tweaks here and there and presto Remington is back on the map again. But alas so much potential and crap management. I've always said varmint shooters shot more than the average deer hunter who goes out once a year. I often wonder where the marketing teams in the gun and automotive industry learned their craft, they stink at it. I sure think another factory 20 would sell but im not holding my breath, im fine reloading for my wildcat 20s but I understand the OPs thoughts and get where he's coming from. It's disappointing when the gun industry could make something great or already has and chooses not to or worse let's it wither and die. I'm convinced all they want to do is introduce a new carry pistol or elk rifle at Shot Show each year and hope they can sell more than the previous year to new shooters that need to justify the urge to buy one more gun whether it makes sense or not. I guess all this rambling is just really a first world problem and doesn't really need solved right away, sure am glad we can still buy reamers and barrels to our hearts content.

I would guess that the ability to run it in an AR with off the shelf mags and hardware is a necessity for modern small cartridges. It either needs to be a hot-rod or a long range cartridge if it is to be primarily a bolt action, or it has to run in an AR with existing hardware if it’s small. A 20 Vartarg would likely need custom magazines for an AR and I just don’t think the 20 Vartarg has any real market outside the small and shrinking varminter niche.

I would bet if somebody would come up with a center feed mag it would fill the void of the repeater guys
