Riflecat, I’m probably one of, if not the biggest fan, of the 221 Fireball cartridge for it and for all of its many offspring that I use.
Several 14-221 Fireball’s (and many 14-221 Walker’s and 14 TCM Extreme +’s)
17 Fireball’s (and several 17 Mach IV’s)
20 -221 Fireballs (and 20 Vartarg’s.)
Several 221 Fireballs. (both varmint rifles and XP-100 pistols)
6mm Fireball (an absolute must on a cattle butchering truck)
Several 300-221 Fireballs, (aka. 300 Whispers, 300 Blackouts.)
Having said that and owning a good supply of triple deuces I’d have to say that if you’re looking for 1 rifle that can do most of the above the 222 is the one I would recommend to anyone. With a 1 in 10 twist Super Match barrel it will easily hammer very tiny groups with anything from 40 gr to 70 grain bullets.
It might not be the fastest or the slowest in all of the categories mentioned above but it will run with
ALL of them in terms of accuracy, ease of loading and ability to handle a wide girth of payloads right on target.
I wish you the very best of luck whichever way you decide to go.
As always stay on target,
Carl C.
