20 Vartarg question

Those of you that have 20 Vartargs out there I have a question for you... is there a significant change of "point of impact" between your new cases and previously fired cases?

I am seriously considering 20 Vartarg over 221FB but I don't want to have to fireform 500 rounds before I am up and running.

Any info would be great. Thanks.

JARED.just pass the fireball cases through a full length die use imperial sizing die wax, just load and shoot.plenty of load data available from TODD KINDLER@WOODCHUCK DEN.
GOOD LUCK garyw:):):):)

I ran about 50 .221 cases through my Redding 20VT FL die, and took my new 20VT to the range Saturday. It was a brisk and very windy day, but I had a number of good groups....this is the best one. Based on my very limited experience, it appears to me that good accuracy in there from the get-go. Best, George

all good information, thanks. Has anyone compared "point of impact" on paper between fired cases and new cases. Even if you use the same load/bullet combination it seems like the case capacity between reloaded/new cases would effect point of impact.

I can't say for sure with the 20 Vartarg cartridge but with all of the 20 Tactical's I have loaded for and shot POI change and velocity differences between fireform and already fireformed cases was very minimal. It was kinda surprising and from that point on I never hesitated to use fireform loads for hunting purposes. Sorry I can't comment on the Vartarg, that cartridge is on my must do sometime list)but I can't see where there would be that much difference in the two in this respect.

JARED:when i first shoot new cases in my 20 tactical i reduce the load by 1 gn the point of impact with any powder/bullet combo shoots always left of p.o.a by 1/4 -1/2 inch why this is i dont know?.its no problem though i shoot rabbits with these loads so nothing is wasted.when these cases are re-loaded next time around; full load they shift back to point of aim?.another puzzle is when firing from a just cleaned barrel i fire two fouling shots these also go left but 1inch high again why i dunno, maybe some one out there will know.ant way keep us informed of your 20vt.

garyw and eggman thanks for the info. 1/2" difference between fired and new cases sounds great to me. With my 223 I switched between 40 and 50 grain bullets. Both loads shot good but the POI was a good 4" difference at 100Y. That experience had me a little worried. Thanks again.

Yes...I have noticed a change in impact as you have described
your not the lone ranger on this one...

6BR4U2,
do you have a 20VT? How different is the POI between fired and new cases?
