20 Vartarg Powders?

There’s a lot of good powders that will work great in the 20VT, if I was home I’d take a look at the Terrific Twenties manual by Todd K And share it. I don’t have a 20 VT but I’m using H4198 in my 20-222 but if I didn’t have H4198 I’d probably be looking at H322 or VV120 when it comes to powders you can get, 8208 isn’t plentiful either. AA2000 has been an accurate powder for me in the past with small cartridges but is affected by temperatures more than most (in my experience). H335 is similar but it’s also easier on throats, meters well and is easy to get. Lots of powders will yield good results but like everyone else, I hope Hodgdon delivers more H4198 in the foreseeable future.

I have the book and could paste picture of the info but not sure if that would be frowned on as Todd has put lots of work into it over the years
If you don’t have a copy get one while you still can.
I bought the 17 one as well even though I don’t own a 17 because I did not want to be looking for a copy later on

True.

I have worked up loads with CFEBLK. They are very accurate with good velocity, using V-MAX and BIB 40 grain bullets. Just start low and work up slowly to see what your rifle likes.

Five shots at 100 yards on a windy day.

I don’t recall H335 being such a compressed load in my lake city brass?! Right is 22.0 left is 22.4.

I'm with The CZ Kid, and tjtwdad, as with either the 221FB or the 20VT, both RL-7 and A2200 are all one needs in either caliber. Absolutely deadly on sage rats and chucks as our local rodents would attest to...if they could.

In the FB with 40gr NBT's or NVGN's, a "hit 'em in the noggin'" load:

And in my 20VT, same-same:

Don't you love it when there are two excellent powder alternatives for two calibers using the same basic case? It sure makes logistics easier, and puts a smile on your face at the same time pouring those measly charges of 18.5grs of powder.

With powder prices now bordering on just plain stupid, I'm so very glad I laid in a good stash of most powders I use gradually over the years. When it sold for around $25/lb, I'd snag one or two pounds every time I was in the store (I hate paying HAZMAT!) Accurate rifles shooting their 'pet-load' with measly amounts of powder using factory seconds and nailing a sage rat or rock chuck 'way out there' makes it feel even better. Cheaper is good too, right?

I found some old data for 17machIV and 4227, also some for 221. I am going to give it a try in the FB and the 20VT because I have a fair bit of it.
