20 Vartarg on its way

PAC-Nor called today for the final shipping payment. The Howa mini barreled action is on its way home. Should be here Friday! Time to start loading some test rounds.

Planning to run 32 gr vmax and H4198. I have a bunch of 8208. Is it worth a shot too?
Chris, how much is Pac-Nor getting for a 20 VT barrel and the work these days? I’m looking at 1 on a Sako L46 that I own. Just curious.

With shipping it was $855. But I had them fit the barrel and true the action ($300). I also did flutes ($125). If I would have had them do a barrel nut setup and got rid of the flutes, I could have saved a big chunk, but that’s not what I had planned.

Edit: also did the $25 super match option. Not sure if it was worth it, but thought hell why not

Dunno about 8208 in a small case like that but RL-7 is a good one if you can find it and doesn't break the bank [it was $83 a pound the last time I saw it]. H4198 is a good powder and I had good luck with Accurate Arms 2200 too. I'm using 32gr Nosler Ballistic Tips [boat tail].

I can’t bring myself to buy RL powder anymore. That $80+ a pound it too much even if you can get a lot of loads out of a pound.

You have better luck with the Nosler than the vmax? Thanks for the info!

TheCZKid nailed it in Post #8 above.

For me, Rl-7 and A2200 have been best with both the Nosler 32gr BT and their 32gr Vgdn, with a bit more velocity using RL-7.

In my Cooper 20VT, both bullets shoot well inside MOR, or "Minute of Rat". ;)

Chris, you're gonna be in love with your new Pac-Nor barrelled 20VT, and be sure to post up just how happy you are when she comes home.

I can’t add but one thing the above gents have not mentioned.
I will say at this point I wish I had taken advice of just going to a 20-222 and no changes.
AA2200 is my go to powder in the 20VT. I run the 32-34 grain bullets. It does what I wanted it too.

I will post pictures of it when I get it put together this weekend. I recently moved into a new house and my reloading stuff is still packed up while we finish building the gun room and set up the range. Hopefully I’ll have some groups shot in the next two weeks!
