20 Vartarg loading

I have a 20 VT Redding body die and Redding Type S neck die. Should I take the expander out or leave it in the die?

I leave my expander in, but leave it loose in the die so it can self-center upon coming out of the case. Using a Redding Comp Seating die, my loaded round TIR runs right at .0005" to a thou' max.....seems to work quite well. (This is from the Sinclair manual "Precision Handloading and Shooting")

If I turn the necks, I remove the expander. If I do not turn the necks, I use the expander and select a bushing size just slightly smaller(.001-.002) than the neck diameter will be after running the expander thru the neck. Obviously in this case, the expander will just slightly expand the necks. If necks are not turned and there is some non-uniformity in neck wall thickness one can choose before bullet seating either a uniform neck OD(no expander) or a uniform neck ID(with expander).

I Leave the expander in.
Run 221 Lapua brass thru the body die and then thru the Nk die with the carbide button and a .228 Bushing.
works great for me.
