20 practical load advice

hi all

I am about to receive a barrel I had made in 20 practical. I'm set up to load but there is not much data. This will be on a custom ar platform. The barrel is McGowan. 32gr vmax. This is being built for a praise dog gun. There is not a ton of load data. Do y'all have any starting load advice. Primer/powders? Also any idea why I don't see any loads for WIN748 powder? I have a killer load in my TC ENCORE...sub Moa. Any starting advice would be helpful.

Thanks all!

You can use 20 Tactical start data, since 748 is a slight bit quicker than BLC2 use BLC2 start data, should be plenty safe start point.

www.hodgdonreloading.com 20 Tactical use the old 33g vmax BLC2 start point.

Pretty much any common 223 powder will work. For cheap plinkers try the 34g Midway Dogtown/Midsouth VNE (same bullet). Shoot well for the price and blow up PD's at short range. Point of reference at 26g of WC844 (my batch is just a tick slower than canister H335) 34g VNE is 3900 FPS.

39/40g varmint bullets are better performers all around over the lights and do much better in wind and at distance.

When using either full length or previously fired brass check case length after forming, necking down will make case .005"-.010" longer, after first firing you may find case length issues, most 20P reamers are set to 1.770 max case length some are a little shorter but case length can be an issue need to be extra careful of that with the gas gun.

Primer- use what works for your load, no need for expensive BR4's or 205M's.

So far I have tried H4895, N133, H322, 2015, and Tac. If you are interested in loadings PM me.

I push the 32 grain bullets with H4198 to good effect. The 39 and 40 grain bullets get H335 or IMR 8208XBR. I'm working with Benchmark as well and it shows some promise.

I'd be happy to provide specifics as well.

No load data to share. But Can I ask where did you buy your barrel? And are you satisfied with McGowan barrel quality?

Benchmark and 40s will kill past 600yds with ease.

Adam

I was shooting yesterday with a 70 degree tailwind at 14 mph. At 200 meters, the 32s (Vmax) drifted about three inches. The 40s, (BIBS) maybe a half inch. This was in an AR 1-10 platform shooting fairly quick.

Todd Kindler, 20 TAC designer strongly recommends Rel 10x...it works for me. The 4198s will get you all the speed you want.
