20 Practical broken shell extracter

In a die you need a case extractor kit...not expensive, in a chamber a coated rod, without jag, and light taps, or ,safer still, a small wooden dowel, usually sourced at a hobby shop, same technique.

I read but have not tried or done. Use the chamber cast metal stuff. Pour into the broken case and when it cools the stuck shell is free to remove.
Good luck.
FWIW it seems that would give you something to work with rather than the thin cartridge metal. Maybe a search for this method would help you.
Good luck.

In a chamber, a separated case is almost never stuck very tightly. Usually a bronze brush on a cleaning rod is enough to grip it and pull it out. jd

Sometimes a broken case will just fall out by shaking. Sometimes using a bronze brush works. A while back I had a case which would NOT respond to the regular methods, including two different types of "case extractors" which are supposed to expand to grip the rim of the neck. I did a lot of research and asking around but nobody could advise me. One gunsmith told me to use a big wood screw, but that sounded like a recipe for disaster to me. Finally I stumbeld on the casting metal method, but it was well hidden deep inside Al Gore's wonderful Internet.

I pushed a patch up the barrel to just forward of the chamber and then poured in some casting metal from the chamber end. This stuff can be melted with a good heat gun. When it cooled, it more or less encapsulated the broken case and I was able to tap it out with a cleaning rod.

From then on, this became my preferred method.

In a chamber you can take another fired case and jam it inside the broken case. Your extractor will pull both cases.
Many times this is done inadvertently with autoloaders. The rifle will jam due to the broken case. When you clear the jam the loaded round extracts the broken case.
