20 Practical Barrel & Bolt

The 20 Practical is a standard .223 Rem necked down to .204 caliber. Rim size and case length is unchanged so you can use your existing .223 bolt.

As for a drop-in barrel, you'll need to find one that is chambered properly. Suggest you contact Robert Whitley who sells complete .20 Practical AR uppers.

There's another .20 cartridge out there; ought to work in an AR too!

Roy has brass custom made by Silver States, ready to load. Dies too, I understand.

Many of the current crop of AR-based wildcats are built on a .25/.30 Remington / 6.8SPC case format. These both use the same head diameter, where other wildcats using a PPC-based case,6mmAR & variations introduced by Robert Whitley III) use a .440 head dameter.

Those that can use the 6.8 SPC for parent brass have an easier time of it than if the length of the Remington brass is desired, as is true with the 6HAGAR.

Roy's used the 6.8SPC as a starting point but has custom brass from SSA formed around an SR primer. You get more case capacity than in a .223-based case, but must then deal with somewhat harder-to-get brass and 6.8SPC magazines for rapid fire.

Give Roy a call; he'll be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I"ll call John Holliger tomorrow. Robert Whitley doesn't just sell a bolt & barrel, too busy building complete uppers, they do look great). Checked with several ar15 suppliers but no luck.
I chose the 20 practical because of the cheap brass & because I'm a newbie reloader.
Thanks again.

If you're new to the reloading game the 20P's a good choice. It's supposed to be an awesome round in an AR so there's no reason not to consider it. My motivation in putting up some other choices was strictly to let the forum members know there's more out there to choose from. What your personal objectives are will influence your eventual choice more than what somebody tells you I think....

spclark,

I appreciated your info also, there's a great article on the pdk20 in the Jan08 issue of Varmint Hunter.
I've already sent an e-mail to Roy asking some questions.
So many great calibers, so little money.
Thanks again to everybody.
