20 ppc barrel length

Looking to build a 20ppc and wondering what length tube most people are using in one.

Was going for a 1-12 or 1-11 twist for the 39bk or 40vmax, hoping to get close to 4k from it.

Sounds like an interesting project. I have a 20PPC that will get a 20 cal barrel if I ever wear it out. If you can get a 1:11 twist, that would be best as some 1;12's don't shoot the 40 V-Max very well. My preference on barrel length would be 24-26 inches. However, if this is a lighter weight walking rifle, you may want to go for 22-24 inch instead. Keep us posted as you get on with this project.

I have a 20-Beggs(almost a PPC), I told my smith (Thumper) to cut at 25in. but when I got home I thought the barrel looked a bit long and after measuring I have almost a 27in., but after test firing two groups were in the 38-3900 fps and two were in the 4200 fps with H4198 and LT32 with (coated) 35gr Bergers. Shot in the three with only 10-15 shots down tube (Bartlien 12 twist) Mack
