20 in barrel 6mmBR?

What twist for a 20-22 inch barrel using 87 V max and 95 VLD grain bullets? What free bore? Thinking about getting a new barrel for a TC Encore pistol. Thoughts??

I have a 22" Bartlein 7.5 twist on a Remington model 7 in 6BR that is actually shooting the 87gr Berger VLDs better than the 105s. It shoots the 95gr Sierra TMK very well too. I believe I am running .090 free bore on mine. I built my brother an almost exact clone of my rifle and his just bug holes the 105s. All depends on what your barrel likes.

With a little research on the bullet, namely the length, BC, Caliber and Weight, you can play with the velocity and calculate stability for different twists. It is very easy and free to play with.

I have a 20" barreled 6BR with a 1:14 twist that shoots 68 gr. Berger FB like a hammer. It is loud. A 26" Lilja barreled 6 BR with a 1:8 twist shoots Berger 88 gr. FB equally well. I think you could get away with a 1:10 or even a 1:12 for your chosen bullets, but I would go for at least a 22" barrel and a 26" barrel with a TC Encore would still be fairly handy. Good luck.

Mine has ZERO freebore. (8 twist) WHY? You may be surprised how fast the throat wears. Probably faster than you would like.
ZERO freebore, the lightest bullets you can get your hands on, stuffed into the lands.
As the throat wears, go to a heavier bullet. I think I'am at 60s now??
Bug holes are the norm without too much work.
