20 caliber wildcat? 20-222 or something interesting

I have a few 20 caliber rifles 20 practical and 20 vartarg also a 204 ruger.. Looking for a new idea..
if they would have made the tcm into a 20tcm or a 5.7x28 necked into a 20. I would have bought one. I was thinking of a 222 necked to a 20-222. Does anyone have a reamer for this.. not interested in a 20 tactical.. greg

I have a couple 20Tac rifles & a couple other rifles in 20VT, but was interested in what I kept reading about the AI type variants. Bought reamers for 20-223AI & 20-221FB AI and had Henry fit & chamber them last year to some former 222, 223 rifles. Now I wish I could start over with all these rifles because I would only have the AI variants if I could. These 2 cartridges do everything I want with ease. I get in excess of 4,000 fps with both with reasonable pressures & accuracy is outstanding with both. Try 'em, you will like them. The only catch is dies. You can make Wilson dies from a 204 Ruger die with your finish reamers or have dies made up, and you can use a Redding Type "S" FL 223AI die for the 20-223AI with correct neck bushing, and have a custom FL sizer made by CH4D or Whidden's for the 20-221FB AI. If you have a CH4D FL die made, be sure to spec the neck diameter for the die, otherwise you will probably get a die that overworks the necks of your brass.

I may be premature in chiming in here, but currently at the front end of load development and wring out of two 20-223 AIs (1-11 and 1-9) barrels plus a 20 SCC 1-11 and 20 Blitz 1-9. My intention was/is for pure challenge and enjoyment for a retired old fart.

With that said, early on I'm most impressed with the 20 Blitz (SCC 20 PPC AI) running 55 Bergers with slower powders ---- N540/H414/H380 and the 4350s, running 3600+ fps and showing no case head expansion or primer pressure indicators. Don't know where the MV will safely end, but will also run the 20-223 AI with the 55 Bergers as well for comparison. Caveat ---- due to weather the last few weeks, have not been able to range shoot anything for group.

More to come, pending weather ---- Tooter

I've build and sold 2 - 20br's. I have a 20 practical that shoots lights out with 32 gr Vmax. Also have a 20-250 I built for shooting 55 gr Bergers at 1K. Most accurate rifle I own. MV is 3850 with H4350 and the 55 gr Bergers out of a PacNor 1x9 twist. Scott

I am still looking but in 4 days I head to Oregon and Nevada to shoot sage rats..I just picked up a new 223 in Remington 700 BDL so I am on my way... barrel and stock will be sold. Thanks for all that replied G

I have been working on a 20 (SHORT) BR and a 20 (SHORT VarTarg Imp.) The Short VT Imp. loads with 10.5 gns. of WW 296 and 12.2 gns. of AA 1680 with 32 V Max. So fare they look promising VERY good accuracy + very little recoil and barrel heat. THANKS Robert

there is a fella in alberta canada that has a wildcat on the 222 and he calls it the 20 extreme. he claims it to be the best ever and tries to back it up with a tremendous variety of loads with many powder and bullet combinations. Fella is not much of a salesman, but his design and his work at the range are fairly impressive. He has dies for sale from Hornady and reamers as well. I do not have one of these rifles because I invested in an HS precision in 204 ruger before I got to know this fellow. FS

My next wildcat will be the 20 Practical but, I see you already have one. Just finishing my first wildcat, (6-284) and needless to say...I got the wildcat fever!!
