20 cal eld-vt

So I emailed hornady asking if they were going to add a 20cal eldvt to there line up & their response was ‘ they will be releasing the information on all new bullets in October ‘

This sounds positive?…

Has anyone else asked the question recently with hornady or have any inside information?

Hopefully a high BC 40gr + bullet

I don't see it happening. The only 20 cal centerfires being produced are 204R and most factory barrels are 12 twist.

I like 20 cals but they are such a niche market as well as the hold such a tiny percentage of the market I'd be really surprised if we see much in the way of new 20 cal bullets especially ones that'll require anything faster then a 12tw barrel.

Maybe something in the 30-35gr range but with a BC that will just barely be stabilized by a 12tw would be fun. Something you can launch 4200++ but has a G1 BC around .290 could make for a fun PD/Ground squirrel bullet.

I love my 20 cals. Im glad in my neck of the woods not many people shoot them so i have an easy time finding them. But that comes as a cost for not a large demand for them. I have just over 2k so i wont kneed some any time soon.

I share the dream but until a SAAMI cartridge exists with an appropriate case capacity and rate of twist, a longer V-Max probably isn’t in the cards.

I've often thought a 20ARC with a 48 grain ELD-VT would make sense and work well with the M4 and bolt gun people. It would not be that difficult for Hornady and Ruger to collaborate on such a project as they did with the 204 Ruger. But the bean counters would have to agree that it would sell well enough to be justified.
Sometimes I wonder how we ever got a 204 at all. I truly enjoy my twenties but realize they have their limitations and will have to be content with what is currently available. I think I'll load a few 40 vmaxs up for my 20 Dasher when I load some 55 Bergers and see how that Lilja likes them. The 36 Blitz King would be a welcome addition for my 20 Vartarg rifles, factory 204s, and 12 twist Dusters if they chose to let us have it as a component. I guess in closing what may make sense to us doesn't always matter to the corporate big dogs and that's OK we can work around it.

I personally think Nosler screwed the pooch when they tried the 20 Nosler instead of the 20VT making it saami just like they did with there 26,28 and 30 and not putting in the proper freebore just to fit there 3.4 action

i like Matts thinking. basically a commercialized 20 PPC, but then what do i do with my Beggs and 20 PPC

Capstone is the one that needs the nudge- 45gr, 50gr, 33gr is the ones they have the dies for…
At least make the once yr run on those… I got a few 55gr stocked-

Rest of the bullet company’s are stuck to what they have… although Sierra keeps the 36gr under raps…
Nosler makes 1 run a year on there 20cal , from the email I received inquiring about some 32BT.

Ol’ Hornady still punching them out every month…

I’d like to buy some dies, & make my own …

Randy said he’s waiting on jackets or cores.. have to check my email for exact clarification… so my 40gr Bibs are just sitting , till I get a few more..

Two years ago I spent time in John Nosler's office trying to convince him of the attributes of the 20VT and why they should market it with their own headstamp after talking it over with TK. I mentioned they make their own brass and bullets so bringing it to market would not be too big of a deal, other than getting SAAMI approval. He said that's one hurdle, but they also must get the CIT (?) European approval also which IS a big deal it appears.

But unfortunately I came away disappointed, and clearly saw they are only interested in big game offerings, bigger, faster, etc. I'm amazed they even offer any .20 cal bullets after the discussion, and suppose we're fortunate we have what .20's they do offer.

I believe most here would agree that the commercialized 20VT would get much more love and attention than the 20 Nosler will ever receive. And that is primarily aimed at the AR guys.

So I suppose 'we' are what is considered a niche group, and won't get any more attention than we're already getting from them. Yes, I'm pouting.

I know you tried Rick. Well we know how the 20 Nosler went! In the toilet.
I'm sure if they would have done atleast a variant of the 20VT- 20 PPC with a center feed mag box on there 21 SA to please the repeater crowd it would have done a helluva alot better than there Nosler design.
