20 cal. barrel twist

I want to build a 204 ruger to shoot the 55gr. berger, is the 1-9 twist working real good for the 55' ?
and any suggestions would be great.

I'm shooting a 20Practical with a 9" twist and it handles the 55's very well. Great accuracy and velocity from my Pac-Nor 24" bbl. The 204R should be just fine pushing the 55's. I have many other 20's but my 20Practical is the only one with the 9" twist. Enjoy it, they are a blast to shoot

May be conservative, but Berger recommends a 1 in 8" twist.

PS: At 3200 fps in a 1 in 9" twist, the 55 gr. Berger(length=.915) has a Miller stability value of 1.102 which is characterized as marginal. A Miller stability value of 1.3 is the minimum recommended to ensure stability. The Miller stability value with a 1 in 8" twist is 1.395. As with most things in shooting, the true test is the results on the target.

I saw bergers recommendation of 1-8 twist but I cant locate a 8 twist.

I built a 20 BR with MullerWorks 1x8 to shoot 55's. Horrible results. Changed over to a Pacnor 1x9 and a 20-250 with the 55's over H4350. One of the most accurate rifles I own. Consistent sub 0.1 moa all day. Not sure how the other 20 cal cartridges shoot compared. Scott

My 8 twist 20 Grendel from PacNor works beatifully too!

Should you decide to stay with the 204 chamber rather than going to the BR or the Grendel, take a close look at the throat specs. You will likely be happier with the results if you can seat the bullet out far enough touch the lands with just 0.5 to 1.0 caliber shank seating depth.

You can get that by using a reamer that generates the right amount of freebore.
