20-250

I had a 20 250 with a 9 twist. Couldent sell the brl.
I rechambered it to a br. I have other 20 brs with 12 twists I killef a coyote at 449 yards tonight with a 40 grn berger from a 12 twist.
The 250 just diddent do it for me. I like the br case much better with the 50 and 55 pills I get almost the same vel but better accurate out of the br with less powder.
Just my .02 good luck.
Kevin

Does anyone have any updates on their loads and accuracy...?

I've been shooting my 20-250 AI Berger 55's , 26" Brux Pacnor Palma barrel around the 3800 for best accuracy... but it still shoots decent right at 4000 fps... but I'm keeping it low for now. I was consistently hitting a spray paint can last week at 600 yds.... easy pezzy.

I have one built, just need a stock and I'll be shooting. It was about a year in the making, just really low on the priority list. Mine is also a 9 twist and I really hope the 55's shoot in my rifle! I'll have some data up soon, may be a couple weeks yet.

My friend and I had the very same calibers made with my new PTG reamer, and with the same powder... barrels... and bullets... BUT... he used a CCI Mag primer and got his up to an average of 4000-4015... and mine with CCI BR primers... 3945- 3960 fps average... but they were on the hot side for sure. They shot okay... but we both got a tad more accuracy by keeping them down around 3800-3900. I was told that this would be the best accuracy area by a gunsmith in SD before I built the AI... but I just like the AI's....LOL.

We only had them built for shooting long range coyotes. If we wanted to stay at 300 yds and below, we'd simply stick with our 204 rugers... but we had the spot'em and shoot'em mentality.

With a 300 yd zero.. they are pretty much a 400 yd hold on hair killers.... and we've killed a few coyotes with them... so far so good. I did have some spinners and runners as those bergers simply blew through... but they didn't run far... and that was with shots behind the shoulder... lung area... now we shoulder shoot them...DRT.

brux is making 20 cals now? I've been after him for a few years to make them. He just laughs and says its like trying to stick a wet noodle in a wildcats ass in a phone booth?

I am trying a 10tw krieger for the 55 bergers. That last 2 hart 9tw have been tearing jackets after 6-10 shots.

OOOpppsss.... the Brux is my 22-243 AI.... Pacnor is my 20-250 AI.... sorry for the confusion.... I'll go back and change that...thanks.....Dan

I've been contemplating reaming out my savage vlp 204 ruger with this reamer, turning it into a 12 twist 20-250 AI, and shoot lighter bullets.

I don't shoot it as a 204, so I might as well make it into a super shooter... if the bullets will take it...LOL.

Im shooting a 28 Pac nor 1 x 9 with 55 gr Bergers over H4350. Ive had a few sub 0.2 three shot with 37.3 and 37.6 grains. I've pushed it to 39.6 lots of pressure. Ive switched over to Varget but not much better. I built a 20 BR last year with Mullerworks 1x8 to shoot 55 gr bergers. Hates the 55's but will shoot the Hornady 40 vmaxs in the 0.3's all day. Scott

I cant explain why the 20 BR 1x8 shoots the 40s better than the 55's i built it for. It is atleast consistent and extremely accurate with the 40 gr vmax and varget. In the same breath its a bit disappointing and expensive that it doesn't shoot the 55 gr Bergers. The reason I switched over to the 20-250 and 1x9 twist. I think when I had my smith recut the threads for 1/2 x 28 is when I lost the accuracy. I shoot most of my rifles suppressed. I did all my loads prior to threading. I can't explain the loss of accuracy since. I have noticed that both of the 20's I had build shoot better with cans "off" than "on" Again I can't explain since every other rifle I shoot will shoot as good with can off as with on????? Something about the 20's I can't explain. I have one other 20 cal, 20 Practical that is slated to be threaded sometime next month. It is probably top 2/10 of my most accurate rifles. Consistent 5 shot sub 0.2 at 100 yards. If it worsens upon threading then I can say its the suppressor. If not, then back to reloading board. I'm going to have my crown recut this week. Hopefully its the issue. If not off comes the threads and can and back to noisy shooting. Scott

What can is it and what contour barrels? Also, how long of barrels?

I am going to a 10tw for the 55's. The 40gr vmax will handle a bunch of rpm's.

New guy here! Am thinking about building a 20-250. Coyote calling rifle. Will a 10 twist work for 55 bergers? Also how much damage to the pelts should I expect? Also what barrel length? I was thinking 24 or 26

I shoot a TBAC 223P1. Barrel length is 26" on BR and 28" on the 20-250. Twist is 1x8 on 20BR, and 1x9 on 20-250 (pacnor). I've ordered a TBAC Ultra 9 with 1/2x28 threads and 223 diameter breech/muzzle just for the 20's hoping to minimize noise and not burn out the 223P1 can in the meantime. Don't ask why. Its a long story. I don't know why the 20BR likes the 40gr Vmax over the Berger 55's. After 800 rounds of testing I gave up on the 1x8 twist. I ordered a 1x9 pacnor and started over with the 20-250 and 55 gr Bergers again. Im still working on load data. Varget and H4350 have showed promise. Several sub 1/4 moa groups but none repeatable. Feels alot like the 20 BR again. More to come as weather improves. Scott

Hey,
just curious on how your 20-250 are doing now? Did you rebarrel to another cal or do you still like the 20-250?

I see a lot of you had pacnor barrels. Did pacnor offer the 20-250 as a chambering option back in the day cause I don't see it in their wildcat chamberings anymore :/

Thanks

We had to get a reamer for the caliber... we only bought 8 tw blank barrels from pacnor. I have a back up blank barrel for the future. Mine shoots so good, that I told my wife to bury it with me... she said okay... but do you want your reloading stuff in there as well.
