20-250

kind of seems like a moot point, you'll get similar velocities. 8) The performance isn't there. But i'm sure it's been done. A lot of powder down a small hole, i'd imagine barrel life would be worse then a 22-250.

A guy I deal with at work quite a bit had one built.

I'm not sure of the specs of the gun at all, but he shoots 55 Unsimgs? or somehting liek that as well as a 62 of the same brand.

I believe.....if I remember correctly he is pushing the 62s at around 3500fps. On paper, the thing ballistics look really good. Very high BC and moving along pretty darn fast.

However barrel life, from everything I've read on this thing, is around 500-600 shots. Possibly up to 1000 before you start seeing accuracy loss. Velocity deteriates around the 5-6 mark.

Its a neat caliber, would be a GREAT gun for coyote hunting. Specifically for calling.

I think a 20BR would be more fun personally!

PS, here is a pretty good article written on the caliber.

Your best bet in effeciancy would be the 20BR and you'd match the velocities as well. Adam

When Small Caliber News was still being published, there was a number of articles on the 20-250. If you can find someone wiling to copy some articles for you, or better yet, find some of those back issues, you'd have about all that's been written on the caliber from an excellent source.

But as Adam has mentioned, you'd be better off with the 20BR. JMO

I have both the 20/250(20Wolfer0 and the 20/250AI(20super wolfer) Both built up by Kevin Weaver of Weaver Rifles. Both are Nesika actions. A "T" and a "F". Both are 12" twist barrels. the 20/250AI is a Lilja and the 20/250 is a PacNor SSSM.

I have done a lot more shooting with the F model 20/250AI. I am using a 50gr Berger bullet in front of 39.5/Hunter. Vel. 3910fps 22ES. (Oehler 35P triple screen chrono). Not max, but flat enough. I am using Norma 22/250 brass. Win large rifle primers.

I am under 2" midrange to 275yds and around 2" low @ 300. This is my primary coyote rifle.

If I had it to do over again I would probably go with the 1/11" twist. After 1100rds I had the barrel set back 5/8".

This rifle also has a vias brake and I watch bullets impact at all ranges. The gun just does not move(harris bipod and hand held butt).

I do not have any feeding problems with the 20/250AI. I cannot say this about the two 6mmBR Normas that I have. One a Remington and the other a Nesika "T".

40grs of imr 4350 and berger 55's. 3840 fps and a .383bc, pretty tough for a 22 250 to match that. Stiller predator with pacnor 9 tw.

Got some 57gr and 62gr vld's from Don Unmussig last week. We will try the 57's in a 20 250 and a 20br, both have 9tw. Have an 8tw rock creek barrel coming for the 62's.

What does he list as the ballistic coefficient (preferably G7)?

Do you know how close the bullets perform compared to that BC?

I'm should have a 20/250 built on a Stiller Predator with a 9 twist Pacnor in a couple of weeks I also have a 9 twist Pacnor 20br thats getting 3600 fps with the 55 Bergers 240 fps more sounds a little better than just matching the velocity I'm very interested in the Unmussig's when you get a chance to try them out, and what are you using your 20/250 for varmints, coyotes? Im building mine for a coyote gun I'm actually building two at the same time with the exact same action stock and trigger except the other rifle will be barreled in 22/250AI with a 8 twist Pacnor

The g1 bc on the 62 vld is over.500. I have yet to shoot the 62's cause an 8tw Barrel is on order.

The 57 g1 bc is around a .450. The bullets look great. I will be shooting the 57's this weekend.

Looking forward to seeing your results!

The BC's seem a tad high, or are they associated with just 4000+ ft/sec velocities?

The 57's have a 9 ogive and the 62's a 15 ogive. It will be 2 months before the 8tw will be done. I have both the 20br and 20-250 reamers, throated for 55 bergers?

Did you get a chance to try out the 57's I just got my 20/250 up and running shooting the 55 Berger's with Varget right now around 3700 but think I can get it a little faster it's not showing any pressure signs yet, I'm very interested in your progress

I think a 20-o6 might be the ticket? I dont see a advantage for the gain personally. I will keep reading though! I have no problem dropping yotes with a 40 G Berger in 204. For backup at greater distance I load 50 grainers in the mag. They shoot about 3 inches low at 300. Same poi at 100 as 40 grainers. I am seriously considering leaving the rifle at home. Most of the time when they are responding to the callls They are inside 30 yards. Shotgun perfect, last one was at 20 feet! I shoot a 1 in 9 twist Shilen barrel on a Rock river Ar Lower. Tac driver even with lighter bullets! I keep expermenting though, good luck> It is interesting to read about. Inovation is what gave us all the great calibers we enjoy today!

What load are you shooting with the varget?

I don't really like to give out load data but data on this is pretty scarce please work up carefully this cartridge builds up pressure fast, this load was safe in my gun.
I'm loading 35gr Varget in Lapua brass with Fed 210GM primers seated .015 off with the 55gr Berger this gave me just over 3700fps from a 26" barrel
