Isn't 20-223 a 20 Practical? Not trying to be picky, just trying to clarify for myself as I'm looking to build a 20 Prac soon.
That's what I was wondering. Berger says optimal is 1-7.Are you sure the 55 gr. bullets are suitable in a 1:8 twist?
I was referring to Berger 55s in .20 caliber, what the OP was inquiring about.I have shot Berger 55's, Sierra and Hornady out of a Savage F/TR .223 with a 30" barrel and 1:7 twist. I can only speak for my rifle. Those rounds that actually DID hit the target BOARD were wild, there were several sideways hits and some apparently disintegrated in flight. I know it is not the rifle since it will shoot 200 yards with a 73 gr. Berger Target round in .53" with a five shot group. I personally do not feel comfortable with any bullet under 69 gr. with this rifle.
TAJ45,
The .20 Tac has a 30* shoulder.....
Way too many cases in this neighborhood...........
Phil.
I've shot berger's 55gr .20 in my 8T barrels with no problems. Some people use 9T's in faster cartridges.

Bingo Phil, thanks for the mem jog. Tom
what powder did you use in a 20x47 ?20x47 stabilizes 55gr Berger in a 9 twist bartlien, repeatedly holds less than an inch at 300 yards.
They are different. The 20 Practical is easier to form, just neck down. Case capacity is very close.Isn't 20-223 a 20 Practical? Not trying to be picky, just trying to clarify for myself as I'm looking to build a 20 Prac soon.
You may want to look at a 20 Practical. Easier to form. Just neck size down performance is pretty much the same. I shoot the 55 Berger in my 20 Practical with a Lothar-Walther 9 twist, 22.7 gr N-540. I used Quickload 20 Tactical data. Load is below max listed. 3049 FPS.New gun project almost done. going to try out a 20-223 tactical shooting only the 55 berger bullets. What kind of speeds are you guys getting with this setup. Im using a 1-8 twist barrel. What powder and a mild load of your bullet speed. Thanks for a little input on this project.
3 rounds at 100 yards. They are different. The 20 Practical is easier to form, just neck down. Case capacity is very close.
