20-222 inbound

The barrel length is kind of cool detail, Zack’s idea and a nice touch, it’s 2.22 inches
You either have the worlds shortest barreled 20-222 or the decimal point is one spot to far to the left. LOL

I hate assuming, but I'll assume it's safe to assume you meant to type the barrel is 22.2 in long. :)

Why did you change and go 10tw, wasn't your original plan to use a 11tw?

I don't know that my Lucas 20-222 BG would work for you since mine is cute for a Rem700 but if you need to use one I can loan it to you until you get yours.

I'm surprised you can get away with a .233 nk dia. using Lapua brass. I think my loaded rounds, using necked down Lapua brass for my 20-222, is right around .233

Kevin's 20 Bobcat with that squared off 40° shoulder sure makes for one hot looking little 20 cal.

The LabRadar chronographs seem to have a love/hate relationship with their users. People either swear by them and love em or the friggen hate the damn things with a passion. There's been some pretty funny stories about guys getting fed up with them and doing some crazy things to em. One guy got so fed up and frustrated with his he blew it up with tannerite, Posted pics along with his story of frustration. Felt bad for him but his pics and story were pretty funny. :)
.235 neck, here is the reamer print.

Totally agree on the bobcat, 222 has the long neck, nothing wrong with using some of that and going 40 degrees on the shoulder. A guy needs one of each, lol. I may be building one of these 20-222s for my wife, she has one of my custom 222s which is her main varmint rifle but I could see the wheels turning last night. She won’t get this one but I’d be happy to build another with Zack just for her. She loves hunting, gotta keep that fire alive.

Lab Radar abuse. I understand though, if something just isn’t working and you try and work the bugs out and doesn’t fix the problem it’s easy to get to the point of tannerite. I dont have a ton of experience with one, I don’t shoot on a public range which helps, I have the JLK trigger but it works pretty good without it. I always used magnetos prior but the LabRadar is nice, doesn’t affect POI, logs the data and is simple to use, if it’s working, so far mine has done a good job.

Fixed it, thank you. I just wanted to make sure the 40s shot well, that’s the only reason.

I order the bore guide, ine if the first things I did, should be here by the middle of the month. I love Mike’s bore guides, happy that he is still building them. Last I heard he was retiring so it was a pleasant surprise when he said yes.

Your reamer print, except for mine has .030 FB looks to be identical to mine, right down to the 3° lead angle. I asked JGS about that a few years ago and I guess it was something they used to do with the 222 so a lot of their 20-222 reamers used it as well.

My loaded rounds measure right around 0.2306" +/- with a good micrometer. I would prefer a bit more clearance, but haven't turned any yet. That is in both the 20P and Bobcat.

I was at Kevin's shop (only a couple of hours away from me) and he pulled out some loaded rounds and I looked at them. I was very impressed by the VarTarg, but at the time brass wasn't available and too much work for me to deal with the number I use on prairie dogs. But I set my sights on getting a Bobcat. First was a Sako Vixen L461 conversion. And that one is outstanding. 2'nd was on a Stiller. Wish I had used a Cooper M-21 instead. I have to use some bolt action to jump the round into the chamber. In the Sako, it feeds perfectly. One year while fireforming 1K rounds, conditions were good and I was hardly missing out to 400 yards. I limit my shot distance on where I can keep my hit average very high. I was sorry to finish the fireforming. With both the 20P and the Bobcat, I can get over 4,000 fps with the 32 gr bullets if I want to. I normally run them around 3850 to conserve barrel life somewhat. Still just devastates the dogs.

You’re right, was thinking of another reamer. I’m happy with the chamber/ reamer, works great, time will tell more but I like it.

Just ordered another reamer from them a couple days ago, 22x47L. Alf was kind enough to just let me use his print from them. Should be fun.

I’ll get some pics of the rifle up today too, came out nice. I may cerakote the barrel, I debated, went back and forth. Most of my rifles have graphite black cerakote. I may end up doing the same with this rifle. Either that or Camo tape the barrel during calling season. That stuff works great too.

That bobcat is one good looking round. Looking at he didn’t use much of the neck either, a little bit but it’s still has some length. I like it. I just about built a bib at with Kevin and went with the 20PPC on a Sako 75 instead, mostly because I had the Sako and didn’t want to go through the hassle of selling it and finding an action for the Bobcat.

I'm thinking that our little round oughta have a cooler name, kinda like the Bobcat.

How about the 5mm Weasel? 5x43 Weasel. Mink? Kestrel?? Hmmmm...
