2 x 243 win loads

I'm new to the 6mm community, actually center fire community in general) so instead of going by trial and error, and wasting a lot of time money) I figure I should search and ask around. I basically need 2 loads. 1 for long range varminting,up to 600yrds) and 1 for the occasional california mulley. What are some recommended loads? The rifle is a HOWA supreme varminter thumbhole with a 1:10 twist,I think). One of the bullets that interested me is the 87gr vmax for varmints but I think it may be a little too shallow for deer.

You might try the 87gr. VMax for practice and varmints, and the 85gr. Barnes TSX for deer.

I've had good luck with a 120gr. VMax/TSX combination in a 7-08.

I have been shooting the 87gr.VMax out of a .243AI with excellent results. Good trajectory and it hits hard. So far, everything hit with it has dropped right there. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer with the Barnes TSX. I've been using H414 in both the .243AI, and a regular .243.

For varmints/practice the VMaxs, Ballistic tips and TNTs work very well. I've found I like the Noslers best, then the TNTs and last the VMax. I can say that each works well with deer but you have to understand they are varmint bullets and not meant to shoot through shoulders/leg bones. A good broad side or neck shot works fine.

I have also tried the Nosler partitions and while they didn't shoot as well as the Ballistic Tips they do shoot well and will perform well on any normally acceptable shot, quartering, broadside).

70 gr Ballistic Tips WS2 coated
45.7gr IMR-4831, Fed210 primer, seated to 2.710 OAL
43.6gr IMR-4350, Fed215 primer, seated to 2.710 OAL

80gr Ballistic Tip WS2 coated
37.0gr IMR-3031, Fed210M primer, seated 2.815 OAL

90gr Ballistic Tip WS2 coated
42.6gr IMR-4831, Fed210M primer, seated 2.852 OAL

87gr VMax WS2 coated
42.6gr IMR-4831, Fed210M primer, seated 2.720 OAL

I also have a web page started for .243s. I hope to get more out soon:

I would initially try out the 87 gr VMAX and either the 85 gr Hornady Interbond or the 85 gr Nosler Partition. All three bullets shoot extremely well with virtually the same load of H414. Other powders that are proven to be good choices are H4350 and H4831sc if you have them.
