2 piece base or 1 piece?? Pros and cons please???

I am a total newby and have a Rem. 700 long action to build from and play with. What is the difference between bases as far as accuracy, utility, etc. Pros and cons??? Recommendations???

A two-piece base provides more room for clumsy fingers like mine to cram cartridges into the magazine.

A one-piece base may offer a few advantages - depending on what kind it is. See my post on the Seekins Precision base and rings for a glance at a very nice, sturdy, lightweight aluminum base and ring setup. http://www.seekinsprecision.com will get you in touch with Glen Seekins, a young lion in the world of premium scope bases and rings. He builds great stuff.

Badger Ordnance makes extremely tough, very high quality bases and rings. Figure on about $300 just to attach the scope to your rifle - but it will be very, very securely attached!

A "tactical" type one-piece base allows a shooter to easily move the scope forward or back for optimal eye relief. Also provides excellent protection if the rifle is dropped or bumped - very unlikely that the scope base & rings will contribute to any zero problems.
