2.5-2.6'' COL .223 mag

Somebody needs to make a good magazine set up for Rem 700 type actions that will accommodate a long c.o.l. for heavy bullets... PLEASE !!!! A BDL type would be wonderful for hunting rifles.. A DBM for whatever ..

Here's what you do......

Remove the spacer out of the rear of the 223 mag box.

Take a 308 machined follower, not the stamped version, and file/grind the sides until it slides freely up & down in the mag box.

Presto, you can now load to 2.800" OAL.

And as a bonus, you can now load 6 down in the magazine.

Alf, wish I could pull that off. I ''have several followers I have modified.. Also a few mag boxes that I have cut the spacer out of and glued a narrower spacer in allowing 2.5.. But no joy as of yet.. That's what I would really like to see, a 700 mag box and follower that would work with a 2.6'' coal...

This is definitely an issue for those loading heavy bullets in .223 Rem that wish to feed rounds from a mag. The magazine/DBM manufacturers have generally not kept pace with the bullet companies in terms of optimizing loads for the currently available very long bullets. This may put someone in the position of having to modify an existing mag, go with MDT's setup, or seat bullets stupidly deep in the case, thereby creating other issues. Fortunately, I shoot F-TR, so my 2.6"-2.7"+ long .223 Rem loads are single fed. Nonetheless, I have .223 Rem bolt gun from which I would like run long loaded rounds from a mag. The mag port is plenty long, but the mags are not. Seems like there is a niche here that could be filled by an enterprising company. As I understand it, .223s/.223AIs running heavies are becoming more popular in PRS-style shooting, so maybe that will drive the generation of magazines better suited to the long heavy bullets currently available.

Is Remingtons new Alpha series mag length longer ? I see the SA mag length is near 2.95-3.00" somewhere in there.
