Curious, I saw your recent video where you were pressing ADG brass into 8.6 bo and I noticed you were turning the necks with some little chatchka. I was planning to leave the necks alone and form to the chamber, but I'm not shooting a bolt yet, I plan to use an LR-308.
I am planning 4 bolts and wasn't going to build a 338LM, but it sure makes sense to use the same projectiles. In the case of brass, for lack of a better analogy, 6.5cm and 8.6bo make sense. I did a trade for a bunch of 6.5cm brass here on AS recently so have a bunch of Hornady once fires to cut down.
I commented on your IG feed I believe, your results looked great. I'm looking forward to Hornady making 8.6bo brass so we can just start with formed brass, but I've made quite a bit of 300bo cases out of 5.53. But I did realize recently by watching some of Brittingham videos and believe the faster twist is needed for 300bo. I had to spend a lot of time getting a load dialed in, they get squirelly quick. I think I will be able to use 8.6bo for both Home Defense and Hunting. I would have never figured that 1:3 would even work, so hat's off to Brittingham for even trying it. I've been sold on 300bo for Home Defense, but it's just a tad light in subsonic for anything bigger than a 'yote. The 8.6bo should be good for any hunting I would ever do, plus any Home Defense situation.
Are you pretty satisfied with 8.6bo?
Makes me ponder necking up a 338LM case to 375, then 375bo and CheyTac would make sense!![]()
Will be curious to hear your thoughts on the 8" barrel. That is where I would expect some time to be spent in tuning the cycling. That was also so of the 300bo.So far so good. The only negative, in my 16" LR-308 frame and the 12" Bowers Group Vers45 Blackout Suppressor, it's a BEAST at #12.
I will be testing an 8" Faxon Firearms Sentinel pistol soon which will be more manageable.
I think it will take SAAMI approval before other manufacturers jump on board.
Hornady has a 300+grain prototype subsonic load which is being tested right now.
I'll shoot it this Sunday and report back! Will be curious to hear your thoughts on the 8" barrel. That is where I would expect some time to be spent in tuning the cycling. That was also so of the 300bo.
Seeing the recent work that Q has done on faster twist rates of 300bo tells me that the faster twist must help stabilize greatly. I haven't tried 1:5 on the 300bo, but even so, there really isn't enough velocity on the 300bo for anything as large as medium size game reliably. At least I can say that for myself. I wouldn't feel comfortable past 300 yards, it just doesn't have enough powder.
The 8.6bo seems it will have some decent velocity at 200-300 yards, so that shouldn't be an issue. The faster twist is obvious genius, touche to Brittingham on that one!
