197 gr sierra in a .284 shehane?

I have a 1:8 twist krieger .284 shehane that shoots well with the 175 gr sierras but I found a bunch of 197 grainers very cheap and they have a phenomenal bc of .780. Even at reduced speeds it still would have significantly less wind drift for 1000 yard f class than my current 175gr pills. Has anybody tried these with a 197? What powder would you use?

I only know of one person who actually tried the 197s. The torque was literally uncontrollable. He abandoned them. However, in a Shehane, if I were to try them, I would opt for RL-26.

I use them in 280 Ackley. RL26 is the ticket, but I have a shorter barrel. I'm happy with the 1000 yard accuracy for steel, but I've no idea what kind of real accuracy you could get. 8" round at 1000 isn't too challenging.

Do you know what kind of speeds you're getting and how much recoil compared to a lighter bullet?

I'm getting 2775fps from a 24" tube. It's a 1:7 twist that I got a deal on, so I've not played with any others except Hornady 180s for fireforming. They were less than 1/2" at 100 while forming cases. Going over 2800 fps is hard on primers in my rifle.

I tried the 197 with a .284 Win with 4831SC and it shot good. 28 inch Krieger 1:7tw. Stayed on the bags well from the bench. Will chrono later and try from prone
