180 btsp in 300 wm

I seem to be having trouble finding info on a 180 btsp (speer) in a 300 win mag using h1000 or h4831. Still relatively new to this, but I don't think I can accurately use data for similar bullets with those powders right? I haven't loaded any 180s yet, just 165, but want to go bigger. I did see that the h1000 often causes a compressed load, which noticed even on the 165 grain due to seating depth for that particular rifle.
Also, looking for 165 btsp data for a .308 win using h4895 and varget. Any advice is appreciated.

What is your application for the 180 BTSP? Unless it is very long range, you do not need the BT. In the Speer line, the flat base and Grand Slam are better hunting bullets and shorter than the BT. Length is an issue in the 300WM if you load to factory length. In my Rem rifles, I load to about 3.42-3.45" OAL to keep the bullet from seating too far in the Powder.

The Nosler partition is excellent on bear. Have used both the 200 and 220 grs. Can tell little difference between the two. Both will penetrate far better than the Speer you are looking at. Barnes also work well and out penetrate the Nosler but they are long.

Thanks, and I've been there. But as I said, being new this, and lack of knowledge, I was unsure if I can use same loads for different style but same weight bullets.....

wboggs, I checked out the 200 partitions and will probably give those a try, thanks for the feedback. Any load suggestions? I have a handful of powders on hand.

You can usually use the starting load given for any bullet the same weight and work up slowly watching for pressure signs. At least that is what I have been doing for about 40 years. ;D

Thank you, figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

The most accurate and powerful loads in my R700 use Norma MRP. Sounds hard to find but Grafts has supplied mine. Plan around 3000fps with the 200 Nosler when seated about 3.42" OAL. I have used MRP for years in the .30 magnums ( 300Wby, 300WM ) with excellent results. I assume you are hunting black bears and the 200 will really work well on them.
Good hunting
