#18 and #19 tonight

Made it out this evening to a nice little 300 yard field just up the road. I took the .17 Fireball that pushes the 25 grain V-Max to 4023 fps at the muzzle. The grass was very long and is due for the first cut. First one, an old Boar, appeared at a large tree right in the middle of the field and 101 yards from my seat. I was using a 5 gallon pail with a swivel seat on the lid and my Bog Pod adjusted to the correct height. It played pic-a-boo for what seemed an eternity however finally got to a position for me to take a shot. Snert likes the head shots so this one's for him!

Next one, another Boar, was feeding for at least 1/2 hour out around the 200 yard mark and when I would just get the crosshairs settled it would go down in the grass again. I waited it out and it finally made the fatal mistake of staying up to long. Sorry Snert with my setup steadying on the head was just to tough so I center chested it!

I had another at 285 but it just wouldn't stay up long enough! Oh and there was one walking in at 10 yards that almost gave me time to get the gun up. It was a good evening with low winds and warm temps and when the grass gets cut I'll get those and the owners of the many cleared burrows I saw when finding the kills!

That first one is fantastic...real surprise in those eyes! :o

I am testing some 105 AMAX tomorrow and hope to hunt a long farm Saturday...if I can convince the bride that camping Saturday is not in our interest...

Hope to have photos...

Nice work Mr M

Nice shooting there.

And snert, just tell the wifey that on Saturday your going out "scouting" for a good place to camp. 8)

Mr. Majestic,
Good shooting. I have been thinking about building a 17 Fireball and wondered if yours is a Rem. factory or a custom. Any pictures and
specs would be greatly appreciated.

Joe, It's on a Savage 16 SS action with the original wedge block accustock. I had it hydro dipped in a grass camo pattern. PacNor 26" 9tw SS Varmint Contour bead blasted barrel, Old B&L 6-24X scope and a 2 lb. SSS trigger. It shoots very nice and fast. You will love the .17 Fireball!

Great harvesting MrM. I too am becoming a fan of the small caliber gun. My 20 TAC is very accurate and there is something really deadly about speed...getting 3900+. with a 35 berger, and none have moved after being hit. Nice eye buldging, but I claim the winner as to how far the buldge protrudes..."ghog season has begun", post number 52. I admit the bullet was a 66 cheek, 6 mm from a 6BR, but the eye buldging contest doesn't have caliber requirements. My total is close at 17 with the biggie at 12+ lbs. Checking out a farm today not hunted in 8 yrs...poor things.

You are getting a lot of "ups and downs" from your targets. Really fun to read about and see.

Thanks.
