17hmr bench gun?????

Ok guys. I have a stole swindelhurst action I plan on putting a good match barrel on to play with. Question is. What reamer should I get and barrel brand and twist rate to shoot 17 grain bullets? I will have a tuner on the gun as well. What ammo is worth buying a case of if its to be found
thanks in advance
chris

Steveb. has been doing a lot of experimenting with the 17HM2 and the 17HMR. He has some threads on rimfirecentral and saubier. He and PTG developed some reamers to address the issues the saami setups suffers from.

At my club's RF BR matches we allow the 17's to have their own class. We also shoot a 2 yardage format with relays at both 50 yds and 100 yds. The 17's can hold their own at 100 and even beat the Unlimited 22s if the wind is bad but at 50 the 22's usually beat the 17's by a wide margin.

We need Steveb to shoot a few RBA targets at 50 yds and see what his rifle will do. The 17's at my club have all been Annie 64's or CZ's or Savages. The Annies dominate.

I think ammo sorting would definitely help.

I have two Cooper 57M LVT rifles, 17 HM2 and 17 HMR. Do the Cooper rifles show up at bench rest shoots ? I v read that the 17 RF ammo varies in length so the bullet free bore , bullet jump , will also be different. The rifles are plenty accurate for prairie dog shooting but I may take the Hornady tool and separate 100 rounds to see how the bullet seating depth varies.

One of the club members has a Cooper and came to spectate at one match early last year and promised to start entering matches but never showed up.

I just read one of SteveB's articles on his site and he has done a ton of work experimenting with ammo sorting.

The 17's should only compete against other 17's so this levels the playing field.
