175 XLD vs 180 VLD, anyone trying both?

I have not been able to get the 180Hybrids working well in my particular 7 RSAUM, while the VLDs group very well. My barrels appears to be a slow one and I am maxed out on pressure with the 180VLDs to get in the middle of the node (2960fps). I,m hoping to get hold of some 175XLDs to try, hoping the slightly lighter weight will get me to the node easier.
How have the 175XLDs compared to 180VLDs in your 7mms? What sort of jump, mine loved the VLDs with .015" jam.
I will do some load work up, but I,m wearing the barrel out with testing Hybrids as it is.

Getting ready to do some testing in my .284 Shehane. No problems with the 180 Hybrid but wondering if I can reach a higher node with the lighter bullet. Based on my experience with the 180 VLD, I'll also start with a 0.015" jam. Good luck to us both!

Just out of curiosity, who made your barrel? Is it button, cut....or what?

I am looking very seriously at a 7mm build in the next few months. I know what I want to do about actions and stocks, but I am still researhing barrels! TIA

The XLD behaves much like a VLD, but more so. Hybrids shoot better in my Shehane but others have made them perform very well. In one case, good enough to win the Arizona State F-Open Palma championship. [br]
Because of the short bearing surface and lighter weight, they can usually be driven to near 3000 in a .284 Win and higher in a Shehane or magnum, given a 30-32" barrel.

Cimmaron. My barrel is a custom button rifled barrel. No use blaming the brand, as all barrels are different and the barrels made either side of mine could likely have been hummers with Hybrids. A lot of -people have got their Hybrids working very well, but some not so????

Sleepy Gator. I hope the lighter weight and shorter bearing surface will help me get some speed back up. When you say they are like a VLD, only more so, do you mean BC, or finickyness with seating depth?

Both. They have a high B.C. and a very long, secant ogive. XLDs are very sensitive to seating depth. The nose is longer than that of either the VLD or Hybrid. Most anecdotal information I have from successful XLD shooters is that they must be jammed .015-.020. But, like a VLD, your rifle might shoot them well with a jump. [br]
Below is a link to an earlier post with a picture of an XLD, VLD and Hybrid. You can easily see the difference. [br]
