.172" 30gr hpbt or flat base Unobtanium...

I am in search of ANY 30gr .172"

If none are available and there are enough of us interested, how many would be required to order, or how much would it cost to have a copy of Todd Kindler's 30gr gold dies made, used and produce a run of say 1,000,000, 250,000, or 100,000?

Would it be something you would be interested in backing?

I have one box of 30 gr gold bullets if you would like them make me a offer

I have about 300 Berger 30 gr 17 Cal bullets...one new box of 200 pcs and about 100 pcs moly coated...Berger a quit making them, as it says discontinued.... just like their long high BC 37 gr Boatails requiring a 6 twist barrel. Had two .17 Remington rifles for a long time, down to one. And even have the Todd Kinder Sensational Seventeens manual.
And a price sheet from June 4, 1996.
17 Rem brass $27 per hundred, Berger bullets available in 15 gr. (Walt Berger owned co gave me a sample of these for free.) 18, 20, 22, 25, & 30 gr 200 bullets in the "yellow box" $27.75 per 200 pcs. The new 37 gr Berger VLD 17s were $32.75 for 200 bullets. Win 760 was my go to powder for the 30 gr Berger right from Todd's loading manual...the rest got imr4320.
The Woodchuck Den had just about everything needed for small caliber rifles and tons of wildcats, dies and cases totally available...then later made a variety of 17 caliber bullets ...I was interested in his 27 gr BT 17 cal.. but unfortunately didn't buy any...so many other calibers to play with... but I spent a lot time with the 17.
Thanks for the 17 memories...I have another 17 barrel!..LOL..
Ray,

Any of those you would be willing to part with? I need 100. I am not trying to corner the market here, just get about 200 of them in the 30gr hpbt Kindler gold format, If possible a few more, maybe an extra 200 for a total of 400.

No, but you can always ask...I had two close confrontations with a lion, and 1 bear, gerydigger huntingin the mountains.. not much comfort in carrying a 17 Rem but I felt better with a mag full of 30 gr Bergers...also had a bear walk up behind me while posting a taeget, all I had was a stapler...the 308 was 150 yds away laying on the tailgate... carried my .45 for the longest time.

That's the best example ever of what to do, carry a gun in the woods, especially when you got Bears anyhow.

I wish. The only thing I can imagine is Hndy & Nosler are paying Berger to not produce 30gr, or j4 30gr .172" jackets. We would likely buy in bulk as much as would be produced.

Rumor has it you have to buy 100,00 jackets at a time now from Berger.

Has anyone else has contacted Robert Reed on product?..
Every time I get ahold of him he some other new excuse.
I love his 30 grn RBBT's.
Been two years since I've seen them for sale

Yes, I spoke with Ron at length about this. The simplified answer is yes, he will produce them, the reason for the delay is large numbers of orders for loaded ammunition. Basically it is currently on hold.

If I remember correctly, it was a young fellow in Texas and he did not keep it going, but for a very brief time.

Somebody bought Kindler's dies and briefly produced the bullet. I think I saw it on Saubier, maybe here. Anyhow, it was about 2 years ago IIRC. Have not heard of them since. Guy from Texas maybe

I often think how the 25 V-Max was a game changer for 17 caliber shooters,it has a poly tip and nice b.c. and it really brought new life into 17s as long as they had a 9 twist barrel.I have always liked and respected Hornady for their support of small caliber shooters re: 17Mach 2, 17HMR, 204R. and all the components they offer. Taking this a step further imagine if they brought to market a 30 V-Max for the bigger 17s with a poly tip and boat tail it might possibly be another game changer.I know supply chain and many other issue are a challenge right now,but can you imagine how well it could work in the future. Not sure if Hornady makes their own jackets but I believe if they made em we would buy em.The 20 calibers have certainly taken a chunk out of the 17 market, but I think 17s have their place too, especially for shooting colony varmints in high numbers and for those who wish to save fur.Just ramblings from an old pd shooter :)
