17 winchester super mag rimfire idea down the drain

BigDMT

I was excitedly planning on getting one of the new Savage B Mag rifles in thenew 17 winchester super mag rimfire chambering when they came out.

I was looking on gunbroker.com last night when I noticed there was a rifle for sale finally. BUT, it was open to bidding only and the price was getting up there a little too high. I thought "oh well, no biggie if I have to pay a little more ". Then I checked ammo prices on gunbroker.com. Supposed to only be $15 per box of 50 rounds. Well these same idiots causing the frenzy are gonna put that new rimfire cartridge in an early grave. They had boxes of ammo up for auction and some geniouses have already driven the prices on the auctions up to over $70 per box!!!

When are these idiots gonna learn that not only are they ruining things for everyone else, but they are also gonna be screwing themselves in the end. Sure wish common sense would kick in sometime soon...

Yeah, it will have to be an awesome chambering to survive being introduced into the teeth of the great ammo panic of 2012/13.

Wait 'em out BDMT! Things ain't been right since the Liberals have had some say. We need a big push(and a viable candidate that is patriotic, or stupid, enough to take the job!) for 2016! Those scalpers you mention on GB or EBay are unemployed, obese hogs and just need the money for another Snickers bar!

LOL!

Hey BigDMT. Whats the ballistics of the 17wsmr compared to 17hmr? One of those would be awesome in the woods sniping squirrels on a cold October morning! Maybe I should look into one. Been using a .22lr since I was a kid squirrel hunting. Its not easy hitting a squirrel with only a tree to lean against and sometimes nothing! Plus having to aim high or low depending if your shooting a squirrel from 20 feet or 75 yards. I have mine zero at 50 yards. Im sure a 17wsm or 17hmr would be easier because they shoot soooo much flatter. Yep, my next rifle will be a rimfire ;D

The 17 hmr shoots a 20gr bullet at about 2500 fps. The new 17 wsm rimfire will shoot the same bullet at about 3000 fps. Pretty big difference. Would be more than enough for squirrels for sure. Probably even plenty for medium range coyotes :)

I find it extremely amusing that a new cartridge / rifle combo is being introduced at this time when you can't even buy 22 rim fire ammo in my area. It's almost laughable.

I know. It couldn't be worse timing. This cartridge has been in the testing and design stage for much longer than the current shooting component frenzy. However, it is not FULLY being marketed yet.

The 17 wsm was actually proposed to be widely available by March. However, it is thought that Savage and associated ammo producers had been holding off until things smoothed out. The Savage B Mag rifles and ammunition are still very scarce and hard to find which tells me they are probably just testing the waters. I'm sure they know that this is a very bad time to introduce this cartridge as we all do, so I don't expect it to become widely available for some time still. I can only hope that when it does come out, that all these folks creating the frenzy by paying outrageous prices have spent all their money or finally calmed down. That will make easy pickin's for the rest of us with cool and patient heads on our shoulders ;)
