17 Rem Fireball

I'd just tell them that the bullet dia is .172" and let them figure it out.

Better idea: Buy a barrel from a known quality maker of .17 caliber barrels such as Lilja. Never heard of a barrel maker asking for bore and groove dimensions, they're industry standard for crikey-sakes.

Agree with Rick, I am on my 2nd Lilja 1:9 twist and couldn't be happier with it

Lilja has Rem. Varmint contours in stock in .17cal.

Grab one and go, i`ve had 2 of them, still have one, and both barrels are great.

Phil.

Where are you seeing two different diameters on those bullets? They both measure .172-- as they should. dedogs

If you click on the bullets.com link it shows .17 for the Hornadys and .172 for the Bergers. Since I don't have any on hand to measure, I had to take the ad at face value.

You're making too much of this. You'll just have to believe that .17cal. bullets are .172".

Not really making "too much" of anything, just accepting what I read because I did not know. Had I known, I would not have asked the question. Thanks to all for helping me with this topic!

Nor have I. It was probably a salesman, but even so....... I checked several barrel companies such as Brux, Krieger, etc. and none of then listed 17 cal on their website.

I wonder what the deal is with Krieger?? The Krieger bbl on my 17 TAC is a hummer. I have heard from other bbl makers that they lose a lot of bbls in the manufacturing process that they have to junk.

And the 17FB is awesome!! Bought a Rem700 SPS Varmint, chopped the bbl to 22", put it in a H-S Precision stock and had Greg Tannel lighten the trigger to 2 lbs and it is a total blast to shoot. Shooting 30 gr gold at 3550 fps, 8208 powder, rem 7.5 primers.

Have a same base gun with a Lijan at 25 running reloader 10x and 30 Golds at 3554 lights out head shots way further than most want to talk about. Great round glad I bought the cases when I had the chance.

Had a 17FB built on a 700VS with a Shilen 9 twist and it'll fling the little VMax anywhere I point it. You have to really work hard to get the barrel cooking and I've hit PDs out to 500 yards with it.

My next .17 is going to be a CZ 17H or a custom 17AH I think. Those CZs just plain shoot.
