17 PPC & N-133

I just built a 17 PPC and would like to use Vit N133 like my 20 & 22 & 6MM PPC rifles. I will be shooting 30gr Gold and Berger 30gr bullets. I thought someone probably has used this powder in their rifle and help me save some time and powder with loads. 9-twist barrel with CCI 450 or REM 7.5 primers. I can find loads for N135, but think It’s a bit too slow. Would also like loads for 25gr bullets. This will be a prairie dog rifle. N133 is a great CLEAN burning powder.
Thanks

What velocity do you think is appropriate for your combination of case and bullet?

Here is some data which supports the slightly cooler/slower powders for your case and bullet:

I shoot the 17 Mach IV (less case capacity) using the now discontinued 37 grain VLDs. I found years ago that IMR3031(!) performed best with this bullet. The obvious drawback was the process of getting that long stick powder into the case!:(;) Now though I use 8208 which is far more simple to load and the performance is commensurate.

While your N-133 might be easier for you it will leave your case underfilled. If that doesn't bother you, chant the reloader's mantra:

Start low and work up slowly watching for signs of pressure.

Enjoy the process!:)

Is anybody shooting the 17 PPC with 30gr or 25gr bullets ? I would like to know your loads with Vit N-133 ?

Load map for 20PPC

Benchmark and Vit N-133 are near equal on the burn rate chart is why I believe I can substitute N-133 in its place. I have over 40 lbs of N-133 on my shelf compared to 9 lbs of Benchmark. N-133 burns much cleaner than Benchmark. I also use it in my 4 other PPC’s. Todd Kindler has loads in his Sensational Seventeens book for Benchmark , so I’ll start low using his loads with N-133. I was hoping someone had used N-133 in a 17 PPC, but no such luck.

THANKS odie

I wore out a nitrocarburized Lilja .17 Remington barrel. My favorite ground squirrel rifle is a .20 PPC, I ran this quickload run to help out. I picked the parameter of 90% minimum case fill. I could not find a 30 gr bullet in the software. This is with 25 gr bullets. I can do better if I know your case volume, barrel length and pressure you want to run at. I picked 55, 58 and 60K psi of pressure.

How do you like the nitrocarburized process?
How many rounds did you have on your .17 R.E.M. Barrel?
