17 mach iv

I've owned 2. It's accurate, fast and fun to shoot. Recoil is near zero. 20gr VMax at 4250. 1" high at 100 is 3" low at 300. My Cooper headspaces factory 17 Fur Ball perfect but I've always shot necked 22 Fireball brass in it since I've owned long before the 17 Fireball came out. I believe there may be 2 degrees difference in the shoulder but I'm not 100% sure. I've also shot plenty of 17 Rem and it's a lot of fun too.

how do any of you like this round and is it the same as the Remington round based on the 221 fireball?

I don't own one, but 5 friends that I have hunted with each have one. They are VERY impressive in the Pdog or chuck fields. I'd definitely go with a 9 twist barrel on one if I had one. WD

As swd stated, it's a great 17 cal. wildcat. Although the 17 Mach IV is very similar to the 17 Fireball, they are not the same. The 17 Mach IV case is slightly longer and narrower at bottom than the Rem. 17 Fireball: 1.4320" vs. 1.420" & .3750" vs. .3769" at the case head. Overall case body length slightly longer in Mach IV as well 1.0646" vs. 1.0596", and a slightly longer neck at .2267" vs. .2220" Fireball. The 17 Mach IV wildcat was slightly modified to the Fireball specs above and produced by Remington as their 17 Fireball in 2007. I personally like the 17 Mach IV design better for its longer case neck vs. the Fireball = typically less throat wear and a little more flexibility with bullet seating depths. And as stated above by WyleWD, use a 1:9 twist barrel if using the longer 25 gr. V-Max and 30 gr. bullets.

Yup, either the Mk4 or FB, 0 freebore, .204" neck to allow for Lapua brass, h4198 or Bmark, and you're set.

It's great is an understatement. Do a 1:9 twist so you can shoot 30gr Kindler golds and you will be happy. It can run close to a 17 Rem with less powder and very accurate

H335 works very well too.[/QUOTE
X2 on the 335.First and last powder i tried meters great, happened to hit the home run with the 20gr. v-max little tiny holes.PD"s nightmare.
Both my boys love this round almost zero recoil hit what they are aiming at for the most part.

I've found that RE 10x outperforms any other powder I have tried better accuracy and quite a bit more velocity shooting 25gr Kindlers and 30gr Kindler Gold

I don't have a Mach 4 to compare it to but I love my 17FB. I run a Rem700 SPS Varmint with the barrel chopped to 22", HS Precision stock and Timney 510 trigger. Currently running 30 Kindler Golds with 8208 but will be testing 25 Vmax's with LT-32. This is a 1/2 MOA rifle and with no recoil is a dream to shoot PD and RC's.

Same as a Mach IV I'm surprised the FB didn't take off better than it did
